Obito grew up as an underperforming but determined Konoha shinobi who wanted to become Hokage. He was frequently late, relied on Rin for support, and treated Kakashi as a rival despite Kakashi’s far greater early achievements. Beneath his boasting, he was sincere, valued comrades, and refused to abandon them 330 455 458.

During the Kannabi Bridge Destruction Mission, Obito awakened his Sharingan while protecting Kakashi. He was crushed beneath falling rocks while rescuing his teammate and gave Kakashi his left Sharingan before being presumed dead 455. Madara recovered him, reconstructed half his body with Hashirama-enhanced material, and cultivated him as the executor of the Eye of the Moon Plan 215 455.

Rin’s death shattered Obito’s remaining attachment to Konoha. He awakened the Mangekyō Sharingan after seeing her die by Kakashi’s hand, embraced Madara’s worldview, and began pursuing a dream world in which Rin could exist again 215 247.
