Background / History
Krillin trained under Master Roshi alongside Goku. His earlier experiences with his former senior brothers left him fearful enough to freeze when one mocked him at the World Martial Arts Tournament, despite his improved strength as a Turtle School disciple 31.
After recovering from the demon warrior’s attack during the King Piccolo crisis, Krillin accepted Tien Shinhan’s invitation to join the Martial Alliance. Roshi told him that his training was complete and that he should choose his own future, asking only that he continue visiting. Krillin departed with enthusiasm, proud of Goku’s training with Earth’s Guardian and eager to keep pace with him 60 67 69.
The Alliance supplied systematic ki instruction, medical monitoring, medicinal baths, and frequent virtual combat. Krillin also began teaching martial arts at schools as part of the organization’s contribution requirements, eventually enjoying his role as an instructor 71 89.
Appearance
Krillin is a short, bald Earthling with no nose; when embracing Tien, his height reaches only Tien’s chest 32 121 123.
- Small stature: Goku remarks that Krillin looks much the same when they reunite after Goku’s substantial growth 91.
- Tournament attire: Wears a small suit when arriving at an early World Martial Arts Tournament 29.
- Golden combat aura: His Gold Attribute Energy resembles a Super Saiyan’s glow but is his own elemental energy, later identified as metal-element divine power 219 342.
Personality
Krillin’s ambition is rooted in friendship rather than resentment. Learning that Goku is training with the Guardian fills him with pride, not jealousy, while strengthening his resolve to catch up. He remains deeply attached to their shared training days and openly misses Goku during long separations 69 89 113.
He can be cautious without surrendering his martial resolve. Before leaving Earth for space training, he worries about the risks, then responds to Yamcha’s encouragement by rallying the group. Years later, he faces Frieza without his former fear, crediting his uninterrupted training for the change 109 272.
As an instructor, Krillin is encouraging and considerate: he lets a former student demonstrate several dozen attacks before defeating him at the tournament. Against destructive enemies, however, he is uncompromising, killing Turles for his atrocities and rejecting the idea that someone so evil should wear Goku’s face 93 123.
His playful side appears in teasing friends, joking about Tien’s third eye, and complaining about being a bachelor. He also accepts practical schemes, including pretending to struggle against Salza to improve the group’s negotiating position over Stook Planet’s Adamantium mines 97 123 134.
Abilities & Skills
Turtle School Martial Arts
Krillin retains and refines Roshi’s methods after joining the Martial Alliance. His style emphasizes unified body movement and adaptable techniques rather than rigid forms 97.
- Uses the Turtle School’s opening stance in tournament combat 32 97 303.
- Combines close-range counters, redirection, and deception against experienced opponents 97.
- Develops extensive combat experience through frequent ranked matches in the Virtual Universe 98.
- Receives Roshi’s advanced instruction in learning from nature and “winning without moves,” centered on emptiness, focus, and conviction 212.
Selfless State
Developed through training with Roshi, the Selfless State empties Krillin’s consciousness and allows nearly instinctive action. It unifies his bodily energy and draws heavily on his accumulated skill and experience 212 219 273.
- Enables rapid evasion and attacks beyond his usual performance; he uses it to suppress Golden Frieza 273 274.
- Sharpens his reactions enough to intercept and disperse Frieza’s Planet Destruction Bomb 274.
- Allows him to overcome a coordinated attack by multiple tournament opponents 315 316.
- Resembles a reduced version of Ultra Instinct, but lacks its absolute evasion and offensive power 273.
- Scales with Krillin’s own strength and technique rather than replacing the need for training 275.
- Consumes stamina: after eliminating opponents, he deactivates it and seeks a place to recover 316.
Destructo Disc and Cutting Light Wheels
Krillin repeatedly improves his cutting-energy techniques, developing multiple-disc attacks, fused discs, and handheld variants 98 99 148 293.
- Multi-Destructo Disc: Produces numerous discs to counter incoming attacks. His later miniature discs cut through enemy blasts and continue toward their users without detonating 98 315.
- Giant Destructo Disc: Merges ten discs into one powerful attack that cuts through Yamcha’s Spirit Balls and forces his surrender 99.
- Fivefold fusion: Combined with the 5× Jiang Fist, creates the attack that severs Vegeta’s tail before he notices 148.
- Cutting Light Wheels: Releases five highly destructive cutting attacks to kill Frieza 274.
- Handheld light discs: Compresses spinning golden discs in his palms to clash directly with Goku Black’s ki sword 293.
- Battlefield control: Uses a disc to block an opponent’s escape route before closing in for an elimination 316.
Jiang Fist
Krillin uses Jiang Yun’s strength-amplification technique, which has fewer side effects than the Kaioken-like techniques it resembles 154.
- Employs a 5× multiplier against Vegeta on Earth and Namek 148 154.
- Can reach a maximum of 7× at the time of the Namek confrontation 154.
- Combines amplification with specialized attacks rather than relying solely on stronger basic blows 148.
Ki Clones and Defensive Techniques
Krillin learns the Ki Clone technique invented by Jiang Yun and uses it both offensively and defensively 97 160.
- Combines an Afterimage Fist feint with a solid Ki Clone, letting Yamcha strike the decoy while the real Krillin attacks from above 97.
- Uses defensive clone manifestations to intercept Frieza’s attacks on Namek, at the cost of accelerated ki consumption 160.
- Employs an Alliance technique that forms a thin membrane over the body and multiplies physical defense 160.
- Clone deception is best suited to surprise attacks; the clone remains distinguishable from the real body and is not a reliable repeated trick against an alert opponent 101.
Ki Control, Sensing, and Metal-Element Divine Power
Alliance training gives Krillin precise energy control and the ability to assess opponents without relying on eyesight or Scouters 71 101 134 135.
- Tracks battles primarily through ki sensing 101.
- Condenses basic attacks so efficiently that an attack using roughly 150,000 combat power has an intensity equivalent to 170,000 135.
- Uses flight in combat and interstellar operations 98 123.
- Channels metal-element divine power, making his attacks sharper and deadlier 342.
- Cannot detect androids through ordinary ki sensing because they lack detectable ki 180.
Equipment / Weapons / Items
- Shared C-level warship — Purchased with his companions’ earnings, avoiding the commission charged for Alliance-owned ships. Its weapons reach 100,000 combat power 151.
- Senzu Beans — Credits beans provided by Jiang Yun with helping the group survive their dangerous missions 123.
- Fruit of the Tree of Might — Consumes it during the Slug encounter to increase his combat power; recognizes that repeated doses become less effective 117.
- Alliance recovery resources — Uses a training system supported by Healing Liquid, customized medicinal baths, and precision medical examinations 89.
- Virtual Universe and Artificial Hyperbolic Time Chamber — Builds combat experience through ranked matches and later pursues intensive training in a chamber with tenfold time acceleration 98 293.
Relationships
- Goku — Fellow Turtle School disciple, close friend, and long-term benchmark. Krillin mourns his apparent death, celebrates his achievements, and insists that his Saiyan origins do not change his identity as a person of Earth 36 69 123.
- Master Roshi / Turtle Hermit — Original teacher and later mentor in the Selfless State. Roshi considers Krillin the disciple best suited to inherit his legacy 69 212 219.
- Tien Shinhan — Friend, recruiter, and frequent sparring partner. Krillin risks himself to assist Tien against Slug and later joins him against Toppo 69 106 117 321.
- Yamcha — Fellow disciple, teammate, and friendly rival. Their tournament match showcases their shared progress, while Yamcha later expresses pride in Krillin’s victory over Frieza 97 99 274.
- Jiang Yun — Alliance leader, occasional personal guide, and source of techniques and resources. Jiang Yun rejects sacrificing Krillin as a means of provoking Goku’s Super Saiyan transformation 92 123 162.
- Maron — Girlfriend after Krillin’s return to ordinary life on Earth; later gives birth to his daughter, whose name is not provided 140 142 224.
- Vegeta — Initially an enemy whom Krillin prevents from becoming a Great Ape. They later cooperate on Namek, and Vegeta eventually praises his performance against Goku Black 148 157 293.
- Whis — Offers advice on the Selfless State, emphasizing stronger fundamentals and improved energy control 275.
- Frieza — Formerly a feared opponent; Krillin later defeats and kills him independently during his renewed attack on Earth 272 273 274.

Notable Quotes
“And don't get hung up on whether Goku is a Saiyan or not. It is enough to know that Goku is a human of Earth now, isn't it?” 123
“Frieza!! You really were powerful back then, but I'm no longer the person I once was. I used to fear your strength, but that is now in the past!” 272
“Trunks! You should know that over the years, I haven't trained any less than Goku. Let me show you just how powerful Earthlings can be!” 292
Trivia
- Jiang Yun initially uses the original story’s “strongest Earthling” Krillin as a benchmark for his own physical potential; this is not presented as a permanent ranking in the altered timeline 1.
- Jiang Yun’s references to Krillin becoming a patrol officer under Android 18’s influence concern the original story, not Krillin’s documented occupation in this timeline 69.
- Unlike his original-story counterpart, Krillin survives the King Piccolo demon attack and is not sacrificed on Namek to trigger Goku’s transformation 60 162.
