Background / History

Piccolo initially lives in isolation and secretly observes children practicing Jiang Yun’s publicly promoted Vital Energy Art. He learns the technique movement by movement, unaware that its vital energy is purifying the demonic energy in his body. At this stage, he is driven by the goal of defeating Goku, avenging King Piccolo, and ruling the world himself. 68

Jiang Yun later provides Piccolo with a Gravity Training Room, allowing him to keep pace with the rapidly improving martial artists around him. By the next World Martial Arts Tournament, he has a teenage appearance and enters specifically to confront Goku. 90 101

During their match, Piccolo uses Ki Clones and trades powerful energy attacks with Goku. His identity is publicly exposed as King Piccolo, prompting an evacuation of the audience; he nevertheless remains focused on defeating Goku and restoring demon rule. 101 104

Years later, Piccolo learns from Jiang Yun that he is a Namekian and that his people are a peaceful race. The revelation tempers his attitude, and he acknowledges that he owes Jiang Yun a favor. Goku subsequently entrusts Gohan’s training to him in exchange for a 100x Gravity Training Room. 145

Piccolo is killed when Great Ape Vegeta annihilates his upper body with an energy beam. He is revived on Namek through Porunga, where Gohan immediately reunites with him. 147 159
