The air within the God Realm Committee had nearly solidified.
Five God King thrones floated at the center of the circular hall, and four of them were already occupied.
The Evil God King sat in the seat of honor, his slender fingers lightly tapping the armrest. Each tap seemed to land upon the hearts of every god present.
The Goddess of Goodness sat to his left, dressed in a plain white gown, a gentle smile resting on her stunning face.
Yet that smile did not reach her eyes.
Her fingers softly stroked the armrest, and her gaze drifted toward the hall entrance from time to time.
The Asura God leaned back in his chair, a faint, ambiguous smile at the corner of his lips, as though what was about to happen had nothing to do with him.
The God of Destruction, however, was entirely different.
His entire body was taut like an arrow about to leave the string, purple-black divine power churning restlessly around him.
A certain emotion on the verge of erupting was suppressed within those deep eyes.
"Where is Life?"
At that moment, the Evil God King finally spoke. His voice was calm, yet carried unquestionable authority. "Why has she not arrived yet?"
The Asura God chuckled and raised a hand to smooth the stray hair before his forehead. "Isn't it normal for her not to show up? After all these years, when has she ever arrived on time?"
"But she is the one being accused."
The Evil God King frowned slightly and said with some displeasure, "Since she is involved, shouldn't she have arrived early?"
"Maybe it is precisely because she is being accused that she does not want to come?"
The Asura God shrugged, looking unconcerned. "If it were me, I would not want to come after being accused either. What a bother."
The Goddess of Goodness sighed softly, her voice gentle but carrying a trace of worry. "Sister Life has always been punctual. Perhaps there is... some reason for her lateness today."
"A reason?"
The God of Destruction sneered and asked in return, "What reason could there be? She had better give us a reasonable explanation."
As his words fell, the great hall sank into silence once more.
The four God Kings each harbored their own thoughts, and the atmosphere seemed to grow even heavier.
After an unknown amount of time, the hall doors finally opened slowly.
A graceful figure entered from outside, her pale green gown swaying softly with her steps.
Beneath the hem of her dress, her fair, slender legs appeared and disappeared from view.
High heels of the same shade clicked against the floor with a crisp, rhythmic sound.
Her features were so exquisite that they seemed to have been sculpted over a thousand years by the finest divine artisan.
Her gentle, elegant bearing also carried a sacredness that could not be defiled.
Her pale green hair cascaded to her waist like a waterfall, the tips drifting lightly as she walked.
The Goddess of Life had arrived.
She walked straight toward the only vacant God King throne and sat down gracefully, her gaze slowly sweeping over everyone in the hall.
When her eyes met those of the Goddess of Goodness, the latter blinked as though signaling something.
The Goddess of Life's heart sank slightly.
It seemed this meeting had come with ill intent!
Especially for her!
Thus, she decided to speak first. Her voice was gentle, though it carried an almost imperceptible wariness. "Everyone, why was the God Realm Committee suddenly convened? Has something major happened?"
The Evil God King fell silent for a moment, seemingly weighing his words.
At last, he slowly said, "Life, do you truly not know what you have done?"
A perfectly timed look of confusion appeared on the Goddess of Life's face. "What did I do?"
She tilted her head slightly, making her look incredibly innocent. "I have been very well-behaved lately, all right? I have stayed indoors every day. What did I do?"
Hearing this, the Evil God King felt a wave of helplessness rise within him.
To be honest, he did not want to involve himself in this matter.
For a God King, while what Life might have done did not conform to the rules,
it was not something that struck at the foundation of the God Realm.
After such long years in the God Realm, who did not have a few private matters?
Yet someone had reported her.
And the one who had lodged the complaint was merely a first-class deity.
That left him with no choice but to take it seriously.
If he pretended not to see it, what would the other deities think?
Where would the authority of the God Realm's laws be?
Of course, he could not directly reprimand the Goddess of Life. After all, whether in status or strength, she was far beyond that person.
Thus, today's meeting had come to be.
The goal was to drag others into this as well, so that at the very least, the Goddess of Life would not hold a grudge against him alone.
"Stop pretending!"
The God of Destruction finally could not hold back any longer. He slammed his palm against the armrest, and the entire divine hall trembled.
He rose to his feet, his purple hair stirring without wind. Anger and something deeper burned in his eyes. "Life, I ask you: who is the child in your Palace of Life?"
As his words fell, the air in the hall seemed to freeze in an instant.
The composure on the Goddess of Life's face vanished, replaced by a flash of panic.
Though she quickly regained her calm, everyone present was a God King who had lived for countless ages.
That fleeting change could not escape anyone's eyes.
The Goddess of Goodness frowned more deeply.
The Asura God raised a brow and studied the Goddess of Life with great interest, as though watching an increasingly entertaining show.
The Evil God King sighed softly.
He knew that things had become troublesome.
Who in the entire God Realm did not know how the God of Destruction felt about the Goddess of Life?
"I do not know what you are talking about."
The Goddess of Life's voice turned cold. Her usually gentle eyes had become sharp as blades as she warned, "What child? Destruction, you may eat whatever you like, but you cannot say whatever you like. Be careful, or I will sue you for slander!"
"Slander?"
The God of Destruction laughed in extreme anger. The aura of destruction around him surged wildly, and fine cracks began appearing across the walls of the divine hall. "Life, how many years have we known each other? Do you think I cannot tell when you are lying?"
"Destruction, calm down." The Evil God King spoke in a deep voice, hurriedly using his divine power to stabilize the trembling hall.
He looked toward the Goddess of Life and calmly requested, "Life, I hope you can give us an explanation for this matter. Do not make things difficult for everyone."
"I am making things difficult for you?"
The Goddess of Life sneered and rose to her feet as well.
Pale green life divine power flowed around her, faintly confronting the God of Destruction's destructive aura. "I think you are the ones making things difficult for me! Who told you that there is a child in my home? Where is the evidence?"
The Evil God King did not answer directly. Instead, he slowly uttered two words:
"Angel."
The hall doors opened once more.
This time, a woman in a light golden gown entered.
She had exquisite features, golden hair as dazzling as sunlight, and a noble, elegant aura. Every step she took was unhurried and composed.
Though she was only a first-class deity, she showed not the slightest fear beneath the gazes of the five God Kings.
The Angel God, Qian Yuhan.
The Angel God who had founded Spirit Hall ten thousand years ago and ascended to the God Realm alongside the Sea God Poseidon.
The Evil God King looked at her and asked, "Angel, you said that the Goddess of Life has hidden a child in her palace. Do you have evidence?"
Qian Yuhan smiled faintly. Her smile was beautiful, yet carried a trace of barely perceptible mockery. "In reply to the Evil God King, I naturally have evidence. But before that..."
She turned toward the Goddess of Life, her golden eyes staring directly at the other woman as she demanded, "Goddess of Life, since you say there is no child, why not let us go in and search? What do you say? If we find nothing, I am willing to accept any punishment."
