Background / History

Poseidon originally cultivated on the Douluo Continent in pursuit of a wider world, eventually attaining godhood and ascending to the God Realm. Rather than finding the freedom he sought, he became constrained by the rules attached to his divine position: without a suitable successor, he cannot relinquish his godhood or leave the God Realm. He has spent over twenty years seeking an heir with the necessary talent, character, and temperament. 5

The Goddess of Life approached him with an offer: she would use her authority as a God King to enable his departure from the God Realm, despite the rules against it. In exchange, Poseidon agreed to protect her son, Li Changqing, after the child was sent to the Douluo Continent in a concealed mortal body. Poseidon demanded that the Goddess of Life protect him should the God of Destruction retaliate; she accepted. 5 6

He arranged for Li Changqing to be received on Sea God Island and ordered his High Priestess, Poseidon Xi, to safeguard and assist the child. His longer-term expectation is that Li Changqing will eventually inherit the Goddess of Life’s divine position, allowing Poseidon to retire and explore other planes. 7 9

Appearance

Poseidon appears as a handsome man around thirty years old. His presentation is notably casual for a god, contrasting with the immense divine pressure carried by his manifested consciousness. 5 8

Although initially overwhelmed by the Goddess of Life’s request, he makes a calculated decision to help Li Changqing in return for a path to freedom and protection from the God of Destruction. 5 6

Li Changqing’s Arrival on Sea God Island

Poseidon oversees Li Changqing’s safe arrival and orders Poseidon Xi to receive, protect, and guide him. He later explains that Li Changqing is meant to cultivate in the mortal world before inheriting his mother’s divine position. 7 9

Search for the Heart of the Sea God

When Poseidon Xi needs to leave Sea God Island to find suitable spirit rings for Li Changqing, Poseidon directs her toward the Heart of the Sea God. Recovering it would restore the island’s strongest defensive formation and reduce the threat posed by the Deep Sea Demon Whale King. 14

God Realm Conflict

Poseidon’s alliance with the Goddess of Life causes the God of Destruction to suspect a relationship between them. His role in sheltering Li Changqing also makes him a target of the Angel God’s ambitions. 12 13 15 16
