Background / History

Ji Bai awakened with innate Level 9 soul power and the Evil Fire Phoenix, a top-tier beast martial soul sharing the same dangerous Evil Fire flaw as Ma Hongjun's Phoenix. Rather than allowing the fire to control him, he treated its constant pain and repeated burning of his body as a trial of will and a means of tempering his physique and spirit. 1 3 6

Flender brought Ji Bai and Ma Hongjun from Phoenix Village to Shrek Academy. Ji Bai learned meditation there, obtained his first spirit ring, and devised a practical method of expelling accumulated Evil Fire by releasing and training with his soul skills. 1 4

After nine months at Shrek, Ji Bai reached Level 15 but concluded that Flender's approach was unsuitable for solving his condition. He left independently for Blazing Academy, believing that its fire-attribute environment and faculty would better support his cultivation. 6 7
