Background / History

Tang San meets Ji Bai and Xiao Wu while seeking Shrek Academy. He and Xiao Wu travel with Ji Bai to the academy, where Tang San pays their registration fees and enrolls. He initially presents himself as humble and reserved despite his considerable talent. 13 14

During Shrek's assessment, Tang San faces Ji Bai, whose Fire Phoenix Martial Soul naturally counters Tang San's Blue Silver Grass. After his plant-based attacks fail, he switches to hidden weapons, but Ji Bai's flames melt or neutralize them; Tang San nonetheless passes the assessment with Ning Rongrong's support. 14 15

Tang San later breaks through during his contest with Meng Yiran in the Star Dou Great Forest. His techniques and endurance allow him to defeat a power-attack opponent despite the usual disadvantage faced by control-type soul masters. 28

His relationship with Xiao Wu deteriorates after she learns that Tang Hao had monitored and pursued her. When Tang San encounters her at the Continental Advanced Soul Master Academy Elite Tournament, Xiao Wu severs her ties with him and sides with Ji Bai. 56 69

Ji Bai subsequently reveals that he killed Tang Hao, making Tang San his open enemy. Tang San follows Ji Bai outside Heaven Dou City to learn the truth, but is overwhelmed in their duel; Ji Bai's attack pierces his chest, after which Tang San disappears amid the Golden Sacred Dragon's breath attack. 70 71
