The head teacher of Class One is Mu Jin, with Wang Yan serving as the deputy head teacher.
After Du Weilun finished his announcement, the head teachers led their respective classes away, with the exception of Song Mu and his two teammates, who did not follow.
Just as in the original story, the trio followed Du Weilun to his office to collect the special reward for winning the assessment.
A Void Leopard Left Leg Bone.
Walking out of Du Weilun's office, Song Mu looked at the Storage Soul Guidance Device in his hand, lost in thought.
Although his martial soul was incredibly powerful, it was also different from that of an ordinary soul master; he could not attach soul rings to it.
When he had just received this soul bone, Song Mu felt no attraction from it, nor did he sense anything special when circulating his soul power.
It seemed that not only soul rings, but even soul bones were beyond his ability to absorb.
This soul bone was useless to him, so he could let Ning Tian have it, but not for free.
Song Mu handed the soul bone to Ning Tian and said, "This soul bone doesn't suit me; you take it."
Seeing the soul bone being offered to her, Ning Tian was stunned that Song Mu would give away such a treasure—something every soul master craved—to her. She quickly replied, "How can I? We were only able to win the championship because you contributed the most."
Wu Feng, standing to the side, was equally incredulous, but then she thought of something and looked at Song Mu with a guarded expression.
Song Mu said, "You can buy my share for one-third of the market price of this soul bone. That way, the bone will belong to you."
Hearing this, Ning Tian thought for a moment and said, "That's fine, but you should take two-thirds."
"That's too much. I'll take half at most."
"Alright, but I don't have that many gold soul coins on me right now. Could I trouble you to accompany me to the Nine Treasures Pavilion in Shrek City after school to pick them up?"
Song Mu nodded in agreement.
Afterward, the three returned to their classrooms together. Ning Tian went to Class Three of the auxiliary department, while Song Mu and Wu Feng returned to Class One, where Song Mu went to the back row to take his seat.
On the podium, Wang Yan stood waiting, having written several lines on the blackboard behind him.
On the left, he had written "Power Attack System," and on the right, "Control System." Beneath each category were several names—those who had performed best during the elimination rounds.
Shrek Academy did not have a Summoning System, so Song Mu had registered under the Control System from the start, and his name was naturally listed there.
Wang Yan said, "Now, we will elect the class monitors. One for the Power Attack System and one for the Control System. The Power Attack monitor will serve as the head monitor, and the two positions will rotate every month."
Mu Jin, who happened to be arriving at the door, heard Wang Yan's words. She walked in, nodded to Wang Yan, and then looked at the students of Class One.
"I am appointing Song Mu as the monitor of Class One. There will be no deputy monitor. If anyone has an objection, prove that you are stronger than classmate Song Mu, and you can replace him as the new monitor."
Upon hearing this, Wang Yan quickly said, "Teacher Mu Jin, doesn't that go against academy regulations?"
Mu Jin replied, "Teacher Wang, you know Song Mu's strength. He is the only one who can be the monitor of Class One."
The reason she made this decision was that if they followed the original rules, Song Mu would be the Control System monitor, but Dai Huabin would have to be the Power Attack monitor.
Mu Jin knew that Song Mu and Dai Huabin had bad blood, so by choosing only one monitor, she avoided the awkwardness of having them work together.
Mu Jin asked, "Does anyone have an opinion?"
The classroom was silent; not a single person voiced an objection. Song Mu was the captain of the championship team for the freshman assessment. Even if they hadn't watched the finals, they knew his strength was absolute. They were more than willing to accept him as their monitor.
Dai Huabin, however, was filled with resentment and clenched his fists. But he knew that if the Nether White Tiger couldn't handle Song Mu, he stood no chance in a one-on-one fight. Despite his dissatisfaction with the arrangement, he dared not stand up to oppose it.
Seeing that no one stepped forward, Mu Jin said, "Good. Since no one has any objections, Song Mu will be the monitor of Class One."
A day passed quietly.
Song Mu walked through the gates of Shrek Academy, fiddling with a red card in his hand.
He had just returned from the Nine Treasures Pavilion in Shrek City, where he had collected his share of the gold soul coins—one and a half million in total. The red card in his hand was the highest-tier membership card of the Nine Treasures Pavilion.
It was similar to the red card from the Treasure Pavilion in Shrek Academy, allowing for discounts and credit, though it lacked the privilege of taking one treasure away for free each year.
"Song Mu, why did you buy two Soul Ascension Pills? I remember that a person can only take one of these in their lifetime," Wang Dong'er asked.
After receiving the red card, Song Mu had purchased two Soul Ascension Pills from the Nine Treasures Pavilion.
Song Mu said, "Isn't there a share for you?"
"My share? Aren't I your soul beast now? The Soul Ascension Pill shouldn't have any effect on me anymore."
"You won't know until you try. Let's go to the Beast Fighting Zone to find Elder Gong first, and you can try it when we get back to the dorm."
"Have you set your sights on another thousand-year soul beast?"
"Not a thousand-year one. This time, I'm going to capture a ten-thousand-year soul beast."
Song Mu didn't slow his pace as he headed toward the Beast Fighting Zone.
When he first arrived at Shrek Academy, he was level 25. After claiming the rewards for two basic tasks, he had broken through to level 26. After three months of cultivation, Song Mu had reached level 27.
The soul power boost granted by capturing his first ten-thousand-year soul beast would be far greater than all the hundred-year and thousand-year beasts combined, likely pushing him to level 29. With the Soul Ascension Pill, he would be able to break through to level 30, and his martial soul would unlock new abilities once again.
Soon, Song Mu arrived at the Beast Fighting Zone.
The teachers and staff here knew him, so he passed through without obstruction. Song Mu accurately located the elder's office and reached out to knock.
Knock, knock, knock—
"Enter!" A deep voice echoed from within the room.
Song Mu opened the door and stepped inside, finding Elder Gong lounging in his chair, reading through files with his feet propped up on the desk.
Elder Gong looked up, but didn't bother changing his posture as he remarked with surprise, "Yo, you're quite the diligent one. You haven't even been done with your assessment for a day, and you're already back here."
Song Mu greeted him first, then stated the purpose of his visit.
Upon hearing this, Elder Gong asked in astonishment, "Kid Song, are you certain you have the confidence to capture a Ten-Thousand-Year Soul Beast?"
Song Mu replied solemnly, "I am certain. Please, Elder Gong, help me."
Hearing this, Elder Gong stood up, patted Song Mu on the shoulder, and said, "Good lad. There's no need for all this talk of 'please.' This favor, the old man will grant."
"Many thanks, Elder Gong!"
"Enough, follow me."
Following that, Song Mu trailed Elder Gong deeper into the Soul Beast Garden, reaching the more heavily fortified Ten-Thousand-Year Soul Beast Zone, where, with the elder's assistance, he easily captured a Ten-Thousand-Year Soul Beast.
