The three of them headed back to class together. Ning Tian was in Class Three of the Support System, while Song Mu and Wu Feng returned to Class One. Song Mu entered the classroom and took a seat in the back.
Wang Yan stood at the lectern, with several lines written on the blackboard behind him.
The left side read "Power Attack System," and the right side read "Control System." Several names were listed beneath each system—all students who had ranked near the top in the assessment's knockout rounds.
Shrek Academy had no Summoning System, so Song Mu had registered for the Control System. Naturally, his name was listed under it.
Wang Yan said, "We're going to elect class monitors now, one for the Power Attack System and one for the Control System. The Power Attack System monitor will be the head monitor, and they'll switch positions every month."

Mu Jin knew that Song Mu had a grudge against Dai Huabin, so she'd chosen only one class monitor to spare Song Mu the discomfort of working alongside him.
Mu Jin asked, "Does anyone object?"
The classroom was quiet. No one spoke up in opposition. Song Mu was the captain of the team that had won the Freshman Assessment. Even those who hadn't watched the final knew he was undeniably strong. They accepted him as class monitor without reservation.
Dai Huabin, however, clenched his fists, his face full of resentment. But he knew that even the Hell White Tiger couldn't do anything to Song Mu; he had even less chance of beating him one-on-one. Though he was unhappy with the arrangement, he didn't dare stand up and object.
When no one came forward, Mu Jin said, "Good. Since no one objects, Song Mu will be the class monitor of Class One."
The day passed in the blink of an eye.
Song Mu walked through the gates of Shrek Academy, idly turning a red card over in his hand.
He'd just returned from the Nine Treasures Pavilion in Shrek City. There, he'd collected his share of the Gold Soul Coins—a total of one and a half million. The red card in his hand was the Nine Treasures Pavilion's highest-tier membership card.
It was much like the Red Card from the Treasure Gathering Pavilion in the original story. It offered discounts and allowed him to buy on credit, but it didn't come with the perk of taking one treasure each year.
"Song Mu, why did you buy two Soul Ascension Pills? I thought a person could only take one of these," Wang Dong'er asked.
After getting the Red Card, Song Mu had bought two Soul Ascension Pills from the Nine Treasures Pavilion.
"Isn't one of them for you?"
"For me? I've become your Soul Beast now. The Soul Ascension Pill shouldn't work on me, should it?"
"How would we know without trying? Let's go to the Beast Fighting Zone and find Elder Gong first. Then, once we're back in the dorm, I'll let you try it."
"Have you set your sights on another thousand-year Soul Beast?"
"Not a thousand-year one. This time, I'm going after a Ten-Thousand-Year Soul Beast."

When he'd first arrived at Shrek Academy, he'd been at level twenty-five. After claiming the rewards for two basic missions, he'd advanced to level twenty-six. After three months of cultivation, Song Mu had reached level twenty-seven.
The Soul Power boost from capturing his first Ten-Thousand-Year Soul Beast would be far greater than the combined boost from capturing hundred-year and thousand-year Soul Beasts. It should raise him to about level twenty-nine. Then, with the Soul Ascension Pill, he could break through to level thirty, and his Martial Soul would unlock another new ability.
Before long, Song Mu arrived at the Beast Fighting Zone.
The teachers and staff here all knew him, so he passed through without a hitch. Song Mu went straight to the elders' office and knocked.

"Come in!" a deep voice called from inside.
Song Mu opened the door and walked in. Elder Gong was lounging in his chair, looking over some files with his legs propped up on the desk.
Elder Gong looked up at the visitor but didn't change his posture. With a surprised laugh, he said, "Well, aren't you a diligent one? It hasn't even been a day since the assessment ended, and you're back here again."
Song Mu greeted him first, then explained why he'd come.
Elder Gong was surprised to hear it. "Song, are you sure you can capture a Ten-Thousand-Year Soul Beast?"
Song Mu answered solemnly, "I'm sure. Please help me, Elder Gong."
Hearing that, Elder Gong stood up and clapped Song Mu on the shoulder. "Good lad. No need to ask so formally. I'll help you out."
"Thank you, Elder Gong!"
"All right. Come with me."
After that, Song Mu followed Elder Gong deeper into the Soul Beast Garden, into the more heavily guarded Ten-Thousand-Year Soul Beast Zone. With Elder Gong's help, he captured a Ten-Thousand-Year Soul Beast with ease.
