Background / History

Song Mu awakened with innate full soul power six years before enrolling at Shrek Academy. Chen Yunlin, City Lord of Anyang City, adopted him as a sworn younger brother and repeatedly took him into the Star Dou Great Forest to seek a suitable soul beast, but none met his martial soul’s unusual awakening requirement. Chen Yunlin ultimately arranged Song Mu’s admission to Shrek and provided him with living expenses and a single dormitory room. 1

Although his visible martial soul was the King Gulu Ball, Song Mu’s true martial soul was an initially locked, transparent game-like panel visible only to him. It required him to capture a soul beast with “specific talents” before its functions could unlock. 1

At Shrek, Song Mu saw the label “Extraordinary Talent” above Wang Dong’s head and captured Wang Dong’er’s soul through the King Ball. This awakened the panel and revealed Wang Dong’er to be a transformed Radiant Goddess Butterfly whose soul had been separated from the body controlled by Tang Wutong. Song Mu restored Wang Dong’er’s form and became her master. 3 4 5

Shrek Academy investigated the capabilities of his awakened martial soul but, on Mu En’s advice, avoided probing the reason for its awakening. Yan Shaozhe subsequently granted Song Mu Outer Court core-disciple status, future direct Inner Court entry at level 40, and promised assistance capturing high-level soul beasts. 6 7 10

Song Mu became monitor of Freshman Class Nine after defeating Wu Feng, then led a team with Ning Tian and Wu Feng to win the freshman assessment championship. He was later appointed the sole monitor of Class One. 14 23 24

During the semester break, he left Shrek for Star Luo City, where he purchased the Soul-Devouring Fierce Blade. Tang San later ordered Niu Tian and Titan to kill Song Mu after discovering Tang Wutong’s missing soul; Mu En concealed Song Mu’s whereabouts. 27 28 29

Appearance

Song Mu is a golden-haired boy around eleven or twelve years old at the time of his enrollment. 1

  • Golden hair. 1
  • Carries a storage soul tool on his left wrist. 1
  • His King Gulu Ball is a red sphere with a gold middle band and an embedded golden crown. 1

Personality

Song Mu is determined and resourceful, enduring six years of failed attempts to awaken his martial soul without abandoning the effort. He is willing to take serious risks when he believes they are necessary, including capturing Wang Dong’er despite anticipating Tang San’s retaliation. 1 3 4

He is strategically cautious about institutional favors and the information he reveals. He accepted Shrek’s resources without considering himself indebted, and he deliberately emphasized Wang Dong’er’s importance to protect her from being targeted as a transformed soul beast. 9 11

Despite his self-assured and occasionally narcissistic humor, Song Mu is patient with Wang Dong’er’s distress, respects elders such as Mu En and Gong Changlong, and avoids forcing control over his soul beasts emotionally. 2 6 7 25

Abilities & Skills

Panel Martial Soul

Song Mu’s true martial soul is a game-like operating panel with functions unlocked through progression and special conditions. Only Song Mu can ordinarily see it, though he can grant visibility to his soul beasts; Wang Dong’er is the only one he has authorized. 1 25

  • Contains a soul-beast team page, Soul Beast Warehouse, backpack, task list, shop, synthesis option, and personal-information page. 19
  • Uses Locke Berry as its internal currency. 5
  • Began with 10,000 Locke Berry after full awakening. 5
  • Can sell medicinal herbs and ores for Locke Berry after Song Mu reached level 30. 25
  • Can exchange Gold Soul Coins for Locke Berry to purchase Gulu Balls. 26
  • Includes locked options for learning and editing skills, as well as synthesis recipes not yet obtained. 4 19

King Gulu Ball Capture

The King Gulu Ball captures and stores soul beasts. Before the panel awakened, it could only capture targets with specific talents; after awakening, Song Mu learned to use different Gulu Ball tiers for soul-beast capture. 1 8

  • A Common Gulu Ball captured a sealed hundred-year Wind Spirit Wolf. 8
  • Song Mu can capture soul beasts up to ten levels above his own, provided he uses an appropriate Gulu Ball. 8
  • Captured soul beasts are evaluated for talent, which determines their growth ceiling. 12
  • Capturing or releasing soul beasts can provide energy that strengthens Wang Dong’er. 9
  • Over eight months, Song Mu captured every ten-thousand-year soul beast in Shrek’s Beast Fighting Zone using Advanced Gulu Balls. 26

Soul Beast Summoning and Command

Song Mu can release and command captured soul beasts in combat. Their attacks and soul skills consume their own soul power rather than his. 9

  • Controlled two soul beasts simultaneously, each with an upper age limit of 3,000 years during the freshman assessment. 19
  • Can replace injured or exhausted summons with other stored soul beasts. 9 23
  • Certain soul beasts can fight autonomously and protect Song Mu even if he loses consciousness. 22
  • His summons include the Blazing Swift Wolf, Wind Tiger, Water-Condensing Python, Thunder Shadow Swift Leopard, Iron-Spine Steel Wolf, and Blazing Lion. 13 14 22 23 25
  • A sufficiently powerful explosive attack against a summon can rapidly drain Song Mu’s soul power; if he cannot maintain his martial soul, he cannot summon or recall beasts. 9

Soul Beast Management

Song Mu can heal, restore, store, and release captured soul beasts through the panel. 5

  • Spent 710 Locke Berry to heal Wang Dong’er’s soul and restore her original form. 5
  • The King Ball creates an internal environment based on the soul beast’s most familiar location. 5
  • Can communicate with Wang Dong’er through mental calls and a one-way visual feed from his perspective. 6 7
  • Granted Wang Dong’er permission to enter and leave the King Ball freely. 22
  • Holds absolute control over soul beasts no more than ten levels above him, or those he has personally raised, but chooses not to use that control coercively. 25

Skill Stones and Skill Configuration

After reaching level 30, Song Mu unlocked functions for applying Skill Stones and changing a humanoid soul beast’s soul-skill configuration. 25

  • Skill Stones can become usable soul-ring skills for humanoid soul beasts without practice. 25
  • Skill configuration can replace a humanoid soul beast’s spirit rings and alter its available skills. 25
  • Completed a special mission by raising Wang Dong’er to level 60, receiving the light-element Skill Stone Refraction. 26
  • Also obtained and applied Flame Slash, Water Bubble, and Superconductivity to Wang Dong’er. 27

Equipment / Weapons / Items

  • King Gulu Ball / Panel Martial Soul — captures, stores, heals, and commands soul beasts. 1 5
  • Gulu Balls — capture tools in Common, Intermediate, Advanced, and other tiers. 8 23 26
  • Storage Soul Tool — worn on Song Mu’s left wrist at enrollment. 1
  • Soul Ascension Pills — two pills purchased by Song Mu; one raised him from level 29 to 30. 24 25
  • Void Leopard Left Leg Bone — freshman-assessment reward; offered to Ning Tian for half its market value. 24
  • Soul-Devouring Fierce Blade — purchased at the Starlight Auction House; kept in storage after Wang Dong’er’s purification attempt was repelled by its evil energy. 27 28

Relationships

  • Chen Yunlin — sworn elder brother and adoptive guardian; arranged Song Mu’s Shrek enrollment, funded him, and spent years seeking a way to awaken his martial soul. 1 4
  • Wang Dong’er — Song Mu’s first captured soul beast and closest partner; he restored her form, supports her emotionally, and trusts her with viewing his panel. 5 6 25
  • Mu En — respected elder and protector; Song Mu calls him “Grandpa,” while Mu En discourages Shrek from prying into Song Mu’s secrets and later conceals his location from Niu Tian and Titan. 2 6 29
  • Gong Changlong — Shrek elder in charge of the Beast Fighting Zone; assisted Song Mu’s captures for eight months and advised him not to expose weaknesses. 7 9 26
  • Du Weilun — Outer Court Martial Soul Department director who evaluated Song Mu’s martial soul for Shrek Academy. 6 7
  • Yan Shaozhe — Shrek dean who offered Song Mu core-disciple status and cultivation resources; Song Mu distrusts his implied expectations. 10 11
  • Ning Tian — teammate in the freshman assessment; received Song Mu’s Void Leopard Left Leg Bone and relied on his strength in their championship run. 19 23 24
  • Wu Feng — classmate, challenger, and later teammate; initially contested Song Mu’s monitor appointment but conceded after losing to him. 12 14
