Sikong Jing killed Sun Gan in a duel and traveled with his reunited family through the Bright Dragon Mountain Range, where the Emperor-Slaying Prison-Breaking Art stirred. Two women searching for him learned he was aboard a Divine Void Ship and raced after it after killing the town chief who revealed his whereabouts.
Two mysterious women attacked the Divine Void Ship and demanded that Elder Wei kill Sikong Jing, threatening to destroy the ship if the crew refused. General Ning stood against them after Sikong Jing suspected they had taken his sister, Sikong Ling, and the women began destroying the fleet to force their demand.
Sikong Jing fled into the Bright Dragon Mountain Range to draw Wang Wei away from the Divine Void Ship, where Wang Xiang still threatened to kill everyone. He sought a powerful demon beast to help him face his pursuer and reached Black Smoke Mountain, home of the Black Whirlwind Ape.
Sikong Jing learned that his sister Sikong Ling was living with the Worry-Forget Sect, but Wang Wei revealed that she planned to kill him and make Sikong Ling believe he died in an accident. Sikong Jing escaped into Black Smoke Mountain and, after letting the Black Whirlwind Ape swallow him, persuaded it to attack Wang Wei in exchange for eating him.
Wang Wei fought the Black Whirlwind Ape to rescue Sikong Jing, but his blood empowered the beast and it drove her away. Sikong Jing then turned on the ape from inside its body, pierced its heart, and began consuming its essence blood.
Sikong Jing escaped the Black Whirlwind Ape and killed Wang Wei, then returned to the Divine Void Ship and helped Ning Jingjing and the Black Armor Warriors defeat Wang Xiang. The survivors asked how he had overcome enemies with much higher cultivation.
Sikong Jing recounted how he had killed Wang Wei and Wang Xiang, then shared their seized belongings with Ning Jingjing and the Black Armor Warriors. After Sikong Jing asked Ning Jingjing about the Worry-Forget Sect, her reaction hinted at a connection to the Seven Sects, Five Orders.
Ning Jingjing warned Sikong Jing to hide his connection to the Worry-Forget Sect, while he vowed to grow strong enough to reunite with his sister. After cultivating aboard the Divine Void Ship, Sikong Jing arrived with the others at the Long Night Black Flame Camp.
Ning Jingjing brought fewer than two hundred recruits from the Azure Dragon Small Domain and faced ridicule from Lan Zhuanghe, whose Eagle Small Domain group numbered over two thousand. At the Black Burn Army's evaluation, deputy marshal Yan Shun questioned her judgment, and Lan Zhuanghe pointed out Su Zhenglong as evidence against her recruits’ quality.
Ning Jingjing brought Su Zhenglong to the Long Night Empire’s Black Burn Army selection, where candidates faced a test of martial will and bloodline awakening. Yan Ruyu and then Sui Yu awakened bloodlines, while Sikong Jing remained unaffected by the Martial Vein Stone’s pressure.
Sikong Jing insisted that Su Zhenglong's bloodline was still awakening as Lan Zhuanghe and Yan Shun mocked them and ordered Su Zhenglong removed. Su Zhenglong then erupted in purple light, revealing at least a sixth-grade Martial Vein and leaving the arena stunned.
Sikong Jing’s group faced Lan Zhuanghe’s anger after Su Zhenglong awakened his bloodline, but Yan Ruyu exposed Sikong Jing’s zero martial roots to Marshal Yan. Ning Jingjing admitted his dantian had been destroyed and promised to restore his martial roots, leaving Sikong Jing’s place in the Black Burn Army uncertain.
Ning Jingjing argued that Sikong Jing deserved a place in the Black Burn Army, but Yan Shun rejected him for having a zero martial root. When Lan Zhuanghe’s Eagle Domain fighters challenged Sikong Jing, he defeated one in a single move and claimed the man’s sword, leaving the others silent.
Sikong Jing deterred Young Master Nangong from challenging him after Yan Ruyu revealed that he had killed an Innate Martial Scripture Realm Black Armor Warrior. After leaving the Black Burn Army, Sikong Jing settled with his family in Ninety-Nine Town and explained to Ning Jingjing that he wanted to forge his own path outside the army.
Sikong Jing learned that Yao Changeng of Long Night Star Luo Palace was likely the only person who could restore Su Yuexi’s meridians and dantian. Ning Jingjing gave Sikong Jing a recommendation letter to enter the academy’s final martial battle examination, where he hoped to earn a chance to have Yuexi treated.
Sikong Jing traveled with his companions to the Long Night Star Luo Palace for the martial combat examination, where he briefly comprehended a skill from a statue. He was confronted by two men from the Eagle Domain who questioned how someone with zero martial roots had entered.
Sikong Jing challenged Long Night Star Luo Palace’s custom of barring entrants with zero martial roots and fought Gu Wei when the senior student tried to expel him. Sikong Jing’s Black Whirlwind Fist sent Gu Wei crashing into a gate pillar, just as Instructor Wang arrived.
Sikong Jing defeated Gu Wei with the Black Whirlwind Fist, but Vice Principal Bai Changkong accused him of stealing the Star Luo Palace’s secret technique and threatened him. Tan Yue of the Long Night Holy Dragon Palace defended Sikong Jing and tried to recruit him, until two elders arrived to confront Tan Yue.
Sikong Jing was denied entry to the Long Night Star Luo Palace Martial Arts Academy because he had zero martial roots, despite Tan Yue defending him and presenting his Black Whirlwind Fist. After Bai Changkong challenged him to reach the Innate Realm, Sikong Jing broke through on the spot and earned permission to take the final martial arts examination.
After Sikong Jing reached the Innate Realm despite having a zero martial root, Elder Wei explained the ancient feud between Star Luo Palace and Holy Dragon Palace and the Seven Holy Dragon Seals. That night, Sikong Jing studied a Mystic Heaven Realm beast core, then felt drawn to the giant footprint near his room.
Sikong Jing comprehended the fiery demon dragon’s power circulation from the Sacred Dragon footprint, then returned to find Su Yuexi and Elder Wei under attack. He rescued Yuexi and seized the arrogant young master as a hostage, leaving the attackers to choose between releasing Elder Wei and risking their master’s life.
Sikong Jing killed Young Master Lan after forcing his guards to release Elder Wei, then fought off the Lan men who sought revenge. He and Elder Wei left three enemies alive, but the survivors threatened that Lan Zhuanghe and the Lan Family would retaliate.
After Sikong Jing killed Young Master Lan, Elder Wei hurried to warn General Ning while Sikong Jing went to Long Night Star Luo Palace’s martial combat test. Though every participant conceded first place to him, Headmaster Bai Changwu rejected him as a student because of his zero martial root and offered him only servitude or another choice.
Bai Changwu forced Sikong Jing to choose between killing three Long Night Holy Dragon Palace students and having his meridians shattered, while holding Su Yuexi at the Star Luo Palace. As Sikong Jing’s fire dragon meridians and aura awakened, he faced Bai Changwu with flames rising from his spear.
Sikong Jing ignited the Seven Holy Dragon Seals and summoned the Fire-Bone War Dragon, provoking the Long Night Star Luo Palace into attacking him. Trapped by Palace Master Yu Wenxiong, he copied the ancient expert’s spear strike and shattered Yu Wenxiong’s barrier, leaving the attack rushing toward him.
