Scattered farmhouses nestled along the far side of golden wheat fields. Farmers, two or three at a time, walked down the country paths with hoes over their shoulders, greeting one another or chatting merrily. It was the autumn harvest season, and this year would likely be another bountiful one.
This was a village on the border between Kuri and Izumo. Though it was only a small settlement of several dozen households, its land was fertile, yielding vast quantities of grain every year that were sold throughout Wano Country. The surplus grain was brewed into fine liquor for the villagers to enjoy in their spare time.
Because Wano Country had closed itself off from the outside world, pirates rarely invaded, and the villagers had always lived peaceful, prosperous lives.
Yet in recent days, the village had become somewhat unsettled. Something strange had happened: the village doctor, who had gone outside the village to gather herbs, discovered a villager lying unconscious on the ground at dawn.
With everyone's help, the unconscious villager was carried home. After sleeping for several days, he woke up with a drastically altered personality. He cowered inside his house and refused to come out. When asked what had happened, he could not explain it clearly; he only knew that the moment he came into contact with sunlight, he would die as though evaporating like vapor.
Over the course of a week, this strange occurrence had already happened three or four times, leaving four or five victims. Every case was exactly the same.
The entire village was discussing the matter. Some claimed that terrifying demons and monsters had escaped from Kamakura Mass Graveyard in Izumo, and that they must be secretly behind these incidents.
From then on, once night fell, every household shut its doors and windows tight, terrified
