Ueno Kei survived the massacre of his family, settled in Konoha, and formed a close friendship with Uzumaki Naruto while training with the Lingyu Blade. When a Kurama Clan conflict drew him into a mission involving Kurama Yakumo, he and Yuhi Kurenai entered Yakumo’s dangerous genjutsu as she confronted her clan and accused Konoha of killing her parents.

• Ueno Kei lost his parents to bandits, and Sarutobi Hiruzen brought him to Konoha, where he began building a new life.
• Ueno Kei befriended Uzumaki Naruto and started training hard after enrolling in the Ninja Academy.
• Ueno Kei found the Lingyu Blade and a summoning scroll, then learned the Wind Wing Sword Technique from the sword’s former owner and began mastering its fundamentals.
• Ueno Kei crossed paths with a secret Kurama Clan operation and later carried Kurama Yakumo away from pursuing clan members after an Anbu ordered him to protect her.
• Kurama Yeqiong and Kurama Yewu pursued Yakumo, while Sarutobi Hiruzen and Konoha reinforcements moved to address the clan’s actions.
• Kurama Yakumo’s genjutsu trapped Ueno Kei, Yuhi Kurenai, and others, and Kurenai explained that Yakumo could make her illusions real.
• Yuhi Kurenai and Ueno Kei broke through the genjutsu’s weak point with her technique and the Lingyu Blade, then found Yakumo with the wounded Kurama Yeqiong and Kurama Yewu.

Ueno Kei survived the Kurama Clan crisis, learned that Kurama Yakumo had wanted him to live, and accepted Sarutobi Hiruzen as his teacher. He joined the Anbu, trained with the Scroll of Sealing, and began his first mission, where concern for his comrades shaped his ruthless choices.

• Kurama Yakumo trapped Ueno Kei and Yuhi Kurenai among monsters, and Kei killed her before Ido emerged and nearly killed them both.
• After the space collapsed, Kei encountered Yakumo in an unfamiliar place and, at her request, used the Lingyu Blade to end her suffering.
• Kei recovered in Konoha Hospital, then told the Third Hokage how fear and misunderstandings had driven the Kurama Clan conflict.
• Sarutobi Hiruzen rejected Shimura Danzō’s demand to exterminate the Kurama Clan, while Kurama Yeqiong led the clan back to its former base.
• Kei accepted Sarutobi’s offer to become his student, graduated early, and joined Akamatsu’s Anbu squad under the codename Hawk.
• Sarutobi identified Kei’s Lightning and Fire chakra natures, gave him the Scroll of Sealing, and advised him to gain field experience before his first mission.
• Akamatsu sent the squad to destroy a bandit stronghold near the Land of Fire and Land of Water border and retrieve classified documents.

Ueno Kei completed his mission in the Land of Tea, killing Aoi Rokushō and taking the Sword of the Thunder God before returning toward Konoha. In the Land of Waves, he joined Kakashi’s battle against the Mist swordsmen as Naruto and Sasuke fought Haku, leaving Naruto face-to-face with Haku after Sasuke fell protecting him.

• Ueno Kei infiltrated the Wagarashi Clan compound, discovered Aoi Rokushō and his Mist Ninja allies, and escaped after explosives devastated the grounds.
• Wasabi Jirocho led the Wasabi Family’s attack on the weakened Wagarashi Clan as Aoi Rokushō fled, but Ueno Kei tracked him down and killed him with Chidori.
• Ueno Kei took the Sword of the Thunder God and prepared to capture Morino Idate, but obeyed Konoha’s order not to contact him and left him alone.
• Kakashi’s team traveled to the Land of Waves, where Zabuza attacked Tazuna and Kakashi began special training for Naruto, Sasuke, and Sakura.
• Ueno Kei returned from his mission and joined Kakashi’s fight against Zabuza and Raiga, defeating Raiga and capturing Ranmaru before ice shards struck Raiga from the fog.
• Naruto and Sasuke fought Haku inside the Demonic Mirroring Ice Crystals, using combined attacks and Sasuke’s newly awakened Sharingan to counter him.
• Haku’s needles struck Sasuke as he shielded Naruto, and Naruto erupted with the Nine-Tails’ chakra, smashed through the Ice Mirrors and Haku’s mask, then froze at the face beneath it.

Ueno Kei returned from his mission, faced Danzō’s attempt to win him over, and became chief examiner for the Chunin Exams. When Orochimaru attacked during the second stage, Kei fought him, survived with grave injuries, and resolved to grow strong enough to protect Konoha.

• Ueno Kei returned to Konoha with Aoi Rokushō’s head and the Sword of the Thunder God, then rejected Shimura Danzō’s ideals and reaffirmed his loyalty to Sarutobi Hiruzen.
• The Third Hokage assigned Ueno Kei to oversee the Chunin Exams and warned him that Orochimaru was returning to Konoha.
• The Chunin Exams began, and Yakushi Kabuto shared intelligence about the candidates, including Ueno Kei, before Morino Ibiki started the first test.
• Sakura tried to protect Naruto and Sasuke in the Forest of Death while Orochimaru pursued them and Anko confronted her former teacher.
• Ueno Kei intercepted Orochimaru’s attack on Anko and unleashed several techniques, but Orochimaru overwhelmed him and survived Kei’s final assault.
• Orochimaru vanished before Anko and the injured Ueno Kei could fight again, and Hatake Kakashi carried Kei to safety as Konoha Anbu arrived.
• After waking, Ueno Kei confirmed Orochimaru’s return to Sarutobi Hiruzen and warned him about Shimura Danzō, then resolved to become stronger after his training accelerated.
