Background

Yu was a war orphan recovered from a battlefield in the Land of Fire by Yakushi Nonō, director of the Konoha Orphanage. Unlike the other children, he remained calm and curious despite the blood on his face. Nonō gave him the name “Yu,” hoping he would live freely like a bird with the sky as his home. 5

Within a year, Yu had learned chakra refinement and independently mastered the Healing Jutsu. At five years old, he used it to save an amnesiac silver-haired child later named Yakushi Kabuto, displaying chakra control comparable to trained medical ninja. 4 5 13

During his early training, a devil dwelling in his soul contacted him after sensing his desire for power. Yu immediately accepted its offer and received the String-String Fruit Devil Law. The devil explained that Yu could eventually grant further Devil Laws to puppets, since his own body could not contain more than one at a time. 2 3

Yu entered the Ninja Academy, graduated in his first year, and defeated Uchiha Shisui despite Shisui's prodigious talent. He later became a Special Jonin and, at eight years old, was appointed captain of Konoha's Medical Corps. 37 64 349
