History

Konoha was founded jointly by Senju Hashirama and Uchiha Madara after the Warring States Period. The Uchiha and Senju were regarded as the two strongest clans of that era, and Madara and Hashirama became the village's legendary co-founders. 11 523

During Konoha Year 44, the village remained prosperous despite the early Third Shinobi World War. Its streets were crowded with shinobi, civilians, merchants, and aspiring academy students, while the war simultaneously caused resource shortages and strained institutions such as the Konoha Orphanage. 6 9

The village's medical infrastructure became vital during the war. The Konoha Medical Corps treated large numbers of frontline casualties, and Yakushi Hane's mass-producible Medical Talismans significantly reduced Konoha casualties after being supplied to the front. 41 90

Konoha prevailed at the end of the Third Shinobi World War. Yakushi Hane's solo stand against ten thousand Rock Ninja became a symbol of that victory, and weakened opposing nations accepted Konoha's peace treaty. 128 129 Minato Namikaze subsequently succeeded Hiruzen Sarutobi as the Fourth Hokage. 113

Political instability continued after the war. The Uchiha Clan, increasingly excluded from Konoha's center of power and relocated to the village outskirts, prepared a coup; Hane's intervention forced the clan to confront the overwhelming strength of Konoha's wider forces. 213 216 Hane later left the village after being accused of treason and attacked by Konoha shinobi. 262

Konoha suffered further damage during Orochimaru and Sunagakure's attack, then entered a period of reconstruction. Hiruzen stepped down, and Tsunade became the Fifth Hokage. 377 409 410 The village was later devastated again when Uchiha Madara attacked to capture the Nine-Tails, but it was fully rebuilt before the Fourth Shinobi World War. 523 529 602

More than a decade after the Fourth Shinobi World War, the former Five Great Nations were unified into the Ninja Nation. Konoha became one of its five directly administered shinobi villages and developed advanced technology, including large public television screens and vehicle-filled streets. 659 660

Hokage Administration

Konoha is led by a Hokage, while the Land of Fire's feudal lord formally holds authority over the nation and its military institutions. The Hokage and the feudal lord operate in practice as near equals. 148
