Background / History

Xiao Wu lived concealed among the students of Notting Academy and later Heaven Dou Royal Academy, with Tang San protecting her true identity. Di Yao's Demon Emperor aura made her feel fearful, oppressed, and unable to resist him normally; she nevertheless found herself compelled to look toward him, unsettling both herself and Tang San 24 27.

The Black Market Soul Hunting Group targeted her after receiving information from within the academy. Di Yao exposed her as a Hundred-Thousand-Year Soul Beast transformation but initially declined to capture her, judging her more useful alive than as an immediate resource 25.

Her soul beast aura was later exposed at Soul-Falling Slope after the Ice and Fire Yin Yang Well stimulated her origin. Di Yao, Hu Liena, Dugu Bo, and Gui Mei cornered her and Tang San, but Tang Hao forcibly opened an escape route. Before she escaped, Di Yao placed a wisp of Great Sun Golden Flame on her, allowing him to track her and preventing her from fully hiding again 104 105 106.

At Heaven Dou Royal Academy, Di Yao used the Sun Mark to reveal her identity publicly and offered her a choice: submit to handling as a soul beast or remain under temporary custody. Xiao Wu chose custody to keep Tang San from dying in the confrontation. Di Yao then placed the Sun Lock Seal on her, suppressing—but not erasing—her aura and allowing him to sense attempts by her, Tang San, or Tang Hao to move or break the seal 111 113.

Following Tang Hao's attempt to rescue them, Xiao Wu was left behind and transferred to Spirit Hall's secret prison. Di Yao explicitly treated her as bait for Tang San, Tang Hao, the Clear Sky remnants, and larger soul beast lines; he considered this preferable to letting her become a soul ring 114 115 117.

Imprisonment forced Xiao Wu to question whether she existed only as someone Tang San needed to rescue. When Tang San eventually reached her, his killing intent frightened her, straining their reunion 117 121 124. During the later confrontation with the Asura Divine Sense, she refused to become the sacrifice demanded for Tang San's divine path, causing the divine sense to abandon him 128.

After Tang San's defeat, Di Yao released Xiao Wu from the Sun Lock Seal. Rather than leave with Tang San and Tang Hao, she chose to return to Star Dou Forest and seek an independent path 130.

Personality

Xiao Wu is deeply protective of Tang San and repeatedly accepts personal danger to prevent his death or worsen his situation. She chooses Spirit Hall custody over continued resistance when she believes Tang San cannot safely take her away, and later remains behind when Tang Hao rescues Tang San 113 114.

Her captivity gradually develops her self-awareness. She recognizes that Tang San's efforts to save her have become entangled with obsession and revenge, fears the killing intent he carries after Slaughter City, and ultimately rejects being treated as a sacrifice for his power 121 124 128.
