Background / History
Lu Yuan was originally known as Zhang Yuan, a member of the Zhang Clan's third branch. After Zhang Zhe injured the son of Yun Province's general, clan head Zhang Hong compelled Lu Yuan to assume responsibility. In exchange, the clan promised to provide for his ill mother and gave him twenty Body-Tempering Pills. He was exiled to the Northern Frontier, where he adopted the name Lu Yuan. 1 2
At the frontier, Old Huang took him in and introduced him to the realities of border service. Lu Yuan rapidly distinguished himself by killing four Northern Barbarian scouts during his first major battle, earning promotion to squad leader under Centurion Zhou Xiong. 1 3 4
His military career grew through raids, formation command, and repeated victories over Northern Barbarian forces. He led small squads against bandits and scouts, destroyed Iron Sparrowhawk units, earned military merit, and became a Centurion and later a Captain. His accomplishments made him prominent in Ice Plain City and drew the Zhou Family's interest. 12 15 22 42
After Great Yong's court sought to use him as a scapegoat for its conflict with frontier nobles, Lu Yuan anticipated the danger, relocated his mother, and ultimately crossed into Northern Barbarian territory through a prisoner exchange. There he became Prince of Qin, built influence through South City's development and an academy project, and later helped establish Great Qin's military power. 131 133 136 141
Lu Yuan led Great Qin's expansion against Great Yong, deploying formidable military formations and personally defeating renowned generals and Earth Immortal Realm opponents. Following the unification-era conflicts, he prepared to ascend, arranging resources and futures for his longtime followers. 174 175 181
In the Desolate Ancient World, Lu Yuan entered the Evergreen Sect, gained the Old Ape as his master, and continued advancing through the higher cultivation realms. 190 217
Personality
Lu Yuan is disciplined, pragmatic, and intensely focused on self-improvement. From his exile onward, he treats cultivation, military merit, wealth, and alliances as necessities for survival rather than sources of pride. He trains relentlessly, consumes resources without hesitation when they will strengthen him, and regards personal power as protection against being discarded by others. 2 23 27 33
As a commander, he is decisive and strategic. He prioritizes formation warfare, logistics, and the survival of his men, while also sharing rewards with subordinates and civilians. He accepts surrender when it serves a larger military purpose. 12 44 110 127
He remains protective of people he considers his own, especially his mother, Xiao Hua, Zhou Hongling, Old Huang, Zhou He, and Wu Han. Even when facing political danger, he attempts to shield his allies from consequences that should fall on him. 36 98 131 136
