Background / History

Early survival and the minor worlds

Humanity was weak in ancient times. After its first Saint appeared, it fought successive wars against other races and eventually established territory of its own 290.

An earlier Human Emperor relocated weaker humans into numerous minor worlds because they could not protect themselves in the main world. Teleportation arrays allowed sufficiently powerful descendants to return. By Lu Yuan’s era, shrinking human living space was also disrupting connections between the minor worlds and the main lineage 181.

Ascension did not guarantee security. Lu Yuan’s companions arrived in the Desolate Ancient World to find their former status meaningless: they survived through mining, hunting, caravan work, construction, and agriculture. Even talented cultivators from the minor worlds could be defeated by same-realm demons or better-trained cultivators of lower realms 181 182.

The Sacred Land alliance

Before Lu Yuan’s unification, the Human Race had gone countless years without a Human Emperor and confronted foreign races through an alliance. Its seventy-two Sacred Lands and over one hundred Saints lacked a native Great Saint 290 311.

The neighboring Demon Race routinely intimidated newly established human Sacred Lands. Nearby Sacred Lands generally provided assistance, but humanity’s survival also depended on the Demon Race’s enemies exploiting any prolonged war 290.

Human cooperation remained inconsistent. When Lu Yuan faced Demon Saints, Golden Light Saint offered assistance while the other Saints hesitated. The demons later exploited this division by attacking western human territory while avoiding Evergreen and Golden Light Sacred Lands 300 305.

Unification under Lu Yuan

The Demon invasion struck Purple Sun Sacred Land, destroying three subordinate Celestial Dynasties within two days. Human reinforcements held the line, but the defenders remained vulnerable to Demon Great Saints 305.

Army-Breaking Saint subsequently led nearly thirty Saints in a counterattack. Five Demon Great Saints and dozens of Saints ambushed them and shattered their defensive array. Lu Yuan intervened after learning that Golden Light Saint was trapped 309.

Recognizing Lu Yuan’s strength, Army-Breaking Saint and the other Saints requested that he become Human Emperor. Lu Yuan accepted on the condition that the Sacred Lands and Celestial Dynasties surrender their independent territories, resources, and military authority 311.

Over more than twenty years, he consolidated humanity into a centralized dynasty. Former Sacred Land disciples entered imperial forces, while Saints and former emperors received government and military appointments 312.

Conquest of the Demon Race

Population pressure and limited land prompted Lu Yuan to launch an offensive rather than accept the Demon Race’s withdrawal into a defensive posture. He led eight million Imperial Guards, two hundred Saints, and the Flood Dragon King into the campaign 313.

The Heavenly Stars Formation trapped five Demon Great Saints. Lu Yuan confronted four others, while the Flood Dragon King and Turtle Prime Minister fought the remaining one. Human-side Saints outnumbered the opposing Saints by more than two to one 314.

The Demon Race surrendered. Its territories were reorganized into Great Qin, and its experts entered imperial service. Several centuries of consolidation substantially strengthened humanity’s middle and lower cultivation ranks 315 316.

War with the Giant Spirit Race

Expansion brought Great Qin into conflict with the Giant Spirit Race over a massive Spirit Stone vein. Lu Yuan ordered the Heavenly Demon Palace Master to seize it, using subordinate Demon troops to defeat the defending forces 317 318 319 320.

Rather than remain humanity’s sole safeguard, Lu Yuan gathered Hongmeng Purple Qi and refined twenty-five Hongmeng Pills. These enabled twenty-five human Saints to become Great Saints before the main war began 322 323 324.

Under Pojun’s command, the strengthened army overwhelmed the Giant Spirit forces with its starlight formation. When the Giant Spirit Ancestor threatened to break the formation, Lu Yuan personally intervened, defeated him, and bound his soul. The ancestor then ordered his people to surrender 324 325 326.

Lu Yuan rejected the Dark God Race’s demand that he release the ancestor and withdraw. He ordered the Giant Spirit Race’s incorporation into Great Qin’s vanguard legions, leaving humanity stronger but exposed to possible retaliation from the Dark God Race and its wider network of allies 327.

Racial Traits & Cultivation

Houtian Physiology

  • Humans are classified as an Acquired Race rather than beings born with Xiantian physiques 224 230.
  • Their bodies generally lack the Demon Race’s physical advantages, making same-realm combat especially dangerous 182 239 295.
  • Ancient Xiantian humans existed; Old Ape compares Lu Yuan’s exceptional talent to theirs 200.
  • Old Ape cannot directly teach Lu Yuan his own Demon Race cultivation arts, though he can evaluate and guide Lu Yuan’s human techniques 200.

Inscription Realm Transformation

  • Human cultivators form inscriptions through cultivation, whereas Xiantian beings possess innate inscriptions from birth 230.
  • Human inscriptions greatly amplify physical strength but do not provide the inherited knowledge carried by some innate inscriptions 230.
  • Later cultivation stages progressively transform the body from Houtian toward Xiantian, producing increasingly large gains with each breakthrough 230.

Great Saint Advancement

  • Before Lu Yuan’s rise, Golden Light Sacred Lord regards a human Great Saint as an unlikely prospect 290.
  • A Hongmeng Pill can transform a Houtian cultivator’s physique to an ordinary Xiantian level, enabling advancement toward the Great Saint Realm 321.
  • Innate Races monopolize these pills and prohibit their sale to Houtian races, restricting humanity’s access to higher cultivation 323.
  • Lu Yuan overcomes this restriction by gathering Hongmeng Purple Qi and refining the pills himself 322.

Profound Arts and Training

  • Techniques in the Desolate Ancient World are called Profound Arts, ranked from first to ninth 182.
  • Even low-ranked sect arts can allow trained disciples to defeat rogue cultivators with higher cultivation 182.
  • Progressively harder breakthroughs may require thousands of years, making access to techniques, teachers, and resources crucial 182.

Government & Society

Aspect Organization under Great Qin
Central authority The Human Emperor controls the former Sacred Lands’ territories and resources; all Saints must obey his commands 311 312.
Civil administration Former Saints and emperors receive official posts. Selected Demon elites later become provincial governors 312 316.
Military recruitment Former Sacred Land disciples join the Imperial Forbidden Army or City Guard; previously independent rogue cultivators also enter the unified state 312 313.
Demon integration Immortal Realm demons may reside in cities and serve in legions or as mounts. Weaker demons are restricted to mountains, rivers, and wilderness regions 316.
Giant Spirit integration Following surrender, the Giant Spirit Ancestor must cooperate with Pojun to redraw territories and place his race in Great Qin’s vanguard legions 327.
  • Land shortage: Before expansion, humanity had too many cultivators for its limited territory, leaving many rogue cultivators with meager resources 295 299.
  • Frontier service: Celestial soldiers and generals fight foreign races continuously; Li Changqing treats every talented human cultivator as a valuable resource for the race’s survival 197.
  • Unequal incorporation: Conquered Demon members do not receive the same treatment as humans. Many resent the restrictions but accept them under imperial suppression 316.

Military & Defensive Capabilities

Battle Formations

  • Pojun’s original formation — Allows human Saints working together to contend with a Demon Great Saint; it was humanity’s principal defensive foundation before Lu Yuan’s rise 305.
  • Heavenly Stars Formation — Integrates Saints and Quasi-Saints with celestial starlight. A properly deployed force led by one hundred Saints can trap several Great Saints 313 314.
  • Great Saint deployment — Operated by humanity’s newly advanced Great Saints, the starlight formation devastates Giant Spirit soldiers and Saints while suppressing their Great Saints 324.
  • Limit — The Giant Spirit Ancestor can attack the formation from outside strongly enough to threaten its collapse, requiring Lu Yuan’s intervention 325.

Fortifications and Battlefield Weapons

  • City formations — Prevent attackers from flying directly into defended cities, forcing them to approach through the walls 295.
  • Wall protections — Human formation masters create defenses capable of blocking attacks below the Saint level 295.
  • Ballistae — Inflict severe damage on demons below the Longevity Realm, compensating for humanity’s weaker bodies 295.
  • Demon-Revealing Mirrors — Identify Demon Race entrants at frontier strongholds such as Sai City 237.

Forces and Command

Force or rank Documented role
Grand Marshal Pojun Commands provincial military affairs after unification and leads the main army against the Giant Spirit Race 313 324.
Lion cavalry Formed from a little over one hundred thousand Lion Camel mounts with cultivation above the Immortal Realm 312.
East Sea navy Patrols and develops maritime resources; Flood Dragon allegiance makes sea travel safer 312.
Ordinary soldiers Hunyuan Realm cultivators in the army deployed against the Giant Spirit Race 324.
Captains Quasi-Saint Realm cultivators 324.
Generals Saint Realm experts 324.

Demon Hunter Alliance

  • Uses tokens to record members’ Demon kills and determine rank 238.
  • Has ranks one through nine, followed by the title Demon Hunter King, whose holders receive courtesy from Celestial Dynasties 238.
  • Killing ten Immortal Realm demons qualifies a member for Rank 6, considered an expert but only middle-tier within the organization 238.
  • A Rank 9 member oversees Sai City, a heavily fortified frontier settlement populated chiefly by people fighting the Demon Race 237 238.

Resources & Strategic Assets

  • Spirit Stone veins — Important to human cultivation. The border vein formerly contested by the Demon and Giant Spirit races becomes a major objective for Great Qin’s development 316 318 320.
  • East Sea resources — Previously too dangerous for humans to exploit; Flood Dragon submission opens access to materials valuable to humanity but of little use to the Flood Dragons 312.
  • Powerful Demon flesh and blood — Used to improve cultivation; two slain Demon Great Saints help produce many Quasi-Saints 262 316.
  • Star Beast remains — Lu Yuan brings back more than one hundred corpses from Hongmeng, providing exceptionally effective cultivation resources 322 323.
  • Hongmeng Purple Qi — One strand can produce three Saint-Conversion Pills or one Hongmeng Pill 321.
  • Dazzling Light Mirrors — Allow rulers and commanders to observe distant battles and military developments 305 323.
  • Hongmeng foundation — Humanity still lacks its own Dao Palace and orthodox supporting lineage in Hongmeng, limiting its standing among the foremost races 324 327.

Relationships

Key Figures

  • Lu Yuan — Human Emperor and architect of unification. He develops native Great Saints so humanity will not depend indefinitely on his presence or foreign allies 311 320 322.
  • Army-Breaking Saint / Pojun — Humanity’s leading defensive figure before Lu Yuan’s rise; later Grand Marshal and a Great Saint who commands the Giant Spirit campaign 305 313 323 324.

  • Li Changqing — Urges Lu Yuan to preserve his talent and fight for humanity, emphasizing the sacrifices of its frontier forces 197.
  • Old Ape — A Demon Race mentor whose guidance enables Lu Yuan to refine pills capable of overcoming humanity’s Great Saint bottleneck 200 321.

Other Races

  • Demon Race — Longstanding aggressor and rival; defeated and incorporated into Great Qin, with its surviving elites serving in imperial administration and warfare 290 315 316 319.
  • Flood Dragon Race — Submits to Lu Yuan, contributes powerful experts, and secures human access to East Sea resources 311 312.
  • Giant Spirit Race — Resource rival defeated in war; its ancestor submits and its people are assigned to imperial vanguard forces 318 326 327.
  • Blood River Race — Rejects humanity’s alliance proposal and mistreats its envoy out of fear of the Giant Spirit Race. Its leaders later regret the decision 317 324 326.
  • Ancient Moon Race — Initially refuses an alliance to avoid the Giant Spirit war. After humanity’s victory and confrontation with the Dark God Race, its patriarch orders renewed negotiations 319 327.
  • Dark God Race — An established overlord that seeks to contain humanity’s expansion. Its envoy withdraws after Lu Yuan refuses its demands, but threatens retaliation 325 327.
