Background / History

Tang San ascended to the God Realm roughly ten thousand years before the main story. He led the original Shrek Seven Devils to godhood and left the Tang Sect on Douluo Continent. Tang Ya initially reveres him as her ancestor, but her genealogy does not establish descent from him. Lin Ye uses that distinction to challenge her family’s generations of sacrifice for the sect 7 44.

During his mortal life, Tang San nearly exterminated the Human-Faced Demon Spider clan. Ren Zhu survived and spent ten thousand years devouring soul beasts and cultivating in preparation for revenge. His divine-consciousness strand eventually lands inside this same survivor 7.

Tang San also comes to resent his former teacher, Yu Xiaogang. He considers the teacher’s theories worthless and believes that following his advice to absorb a ten-year Lone Bamboo would have ruined his future. He deliberately did not bring Yu Xiaogang to the God Realm, rejecting the teacher’s claim to credit for his ascension 25.

Personality

Tang San is intensely possessive of Douluo Continent. He regards the continent as territory that must remain under his control and wants its Child of Fortune to become obedient to him. When observation fails, he authorizes covert agents to eliminate anything they cannot control. He later celebrates blocking the Life Goddess’s succession because it helps restrict ascension from the continent 20 209 241.

His public composure conceals considerable pride and sensitivity to humiliation. He suppresses his contempt for Yu Xiaogang when other gods are watching, while privately raging over his teacher’s conduct. The destruction of his mortal reputation makes him cough up blood, but he soon returns to boasting that the Divine Realm belongs to him 167 173 243.

He can also respond to personal devotion. While inhabiting Ren Zhu, he is moved by Huo Yuhao’s willingness to protect him and chooses sacrifice rather than capture. His treatment of Wang Dong’er is more controlling: after failing to restore her memories, he decides to overpower her and take her back 107 251.
