Background / History

Dai Li was formerly the Star Luo Crown Prince. During a perilous succession struggle involving his elder brothers, Zhu Qingque stood at his side; together, they rose to the imperial throne. He later recalled having vowed to share hardship with her and never betray her. They had been married for twenty-five years by the time of the Seven Kill Sect’s arrival in Star Luo City 36.

As emperor, Dai Li favored practical combat experience over resource-assisted cultivation. He initially judged Chen Fan—an eighteen-year-old level 49 Soul Ancestor raised within the secluded Seven Kill Sect—as a likely “window-dressing” genius with little genuine battle experience 21.

Story Role / Major Arcs

Reception of the Seven Kill Sect

Dai Li hosted Chen Fan, Chen Xin, Tang Xiao, and Tang Wei at Taihe Hall after the Seven Kill Sect and Clear Sky Sect arrived in Star Luo City 20. He remained outwardly cordial while hoping the two sects would clash, allowing Star Luo to recruit the stronger side 21.

When rumors suggested Chen Fan had come to marry Princess Dai Yue, Dai Li permitted Empress Zhu to present conditions for the supposed marriage alliance. Chen Fan then revealed that he intended to marry Xu Jiuer and Xu Qinger instead, publicly humiliating the imperial family and provoking Dai Li’s anger 21 22.

Taihe Hall Crisis

After Chen Fan elevated Xu Wensu from level 89 to a level 93 Titled Douluo, Dai Li falsely claimed that the Seven Kill Sect’s medicine originated from a stolen Star Luo imperial formula 24 25. He ordered Chen Fan’s arrest, despite the presence of Chen Xin and Xu Wensu 25.

Xu Wensu captured Dai Li and nearly killed him before Dai Renfeng intervened. Dai Renfeng and Zhu Buchun subsequently confronted the Seven Kill Sect, but Chen Jianjun killed Zhu Buchun and executed Dai Renfeng with two further strikes 25 27 28. Dai Li’s fear became visible as he lost control in the hall following his ancestors’ deaths 28 29.

Decline of Imperial Authority

The destruction of Dai Renfeng and Zhu Buchun devastated the Dai Family’s prestige. Dai Li became paranoid that hostile noble families would exploit Chen Fan’s attention toward Zhu Qingque and push the Dai family from the throne 32 33.

Seeking protection from the Seven Kill Sect, he asked Zhu Qingque to approach Chen Fan. When she refused and denounced him, Dai Li slapped her and insisted that the family’s survival outweighed her objections 33. He later sent her to Chen Fan’s manor, while privately resenting the humiliation this brought him 34.

Forced Apology and Marital Breakdown

Cheng Ming and other officials challenged Dai Li’s refusal to reconcile with the Seven Kill Sect. After he refused to apologize, they beat him and escorted him to Chen Fan’s manor 35.

At the manor, Dai Li apologized while Zhu Qingque was with Chen Fan, then collapsed under the combined physical pain, humiliation, and emotional strain 36. The following day, Zhu Qingque—now level 89—rejected Dai Li’s attempt at reconciliation and sent him flying with a kick, leaving him severely injured 38.
