Background / History

Danzō was already a High-Level Advisor and Anbu Director during the crisis at Uzu Hidden Village. In his prime, he retained both arms and eyes and personally led Anbu operations. He delayed Konoha's intervention until the Third Mizukage had died and the Mist forces began their rampage. 8 27

Following Uzu's fall, Danzō obtained the village's Forbidden Scroll but was prevented from studying it by Dan Katō's Spiritualist Technique. He subsequently prioritized recovering the Uzumaki Elder's sealing scroll over rescuing surviving Uzumaki clan members. 32 33

He backed Orochimaru's human experimentation with Tobirama's research notes, prisoners of war, Anbu volunteers, and Shimura clan subjects. During the Nine-Tails' transfer seal, he used a transplanted Sharingan to disrupt Senju Rin and weaken the Senju Clan; he later confessed to creating the Nine-Tails' Susanoo Armor. 72 81 95

Yagami led Danzō to Uchiha Madara while pretending to investigate an illusion user. Danzō confronted Madara with his Mangekyo Sharingan, Wind Release, and Susanoo, but Madara's Wood Release overwhelmed him. After the Anbu reforms, Danzō accepted complete control of Root in exchange for yielding on the restructuring of the Anbu. After receiving Hashirama Cells, Danzō pursued additional Mangekyo Sharingan. He attempted to seize Uchiha Goka's eyes, survived Goka's Island of Onushi through Izanagi, and later argued for exterminating the Uchiha Clan to secure more Sharingan; Hiruzen rejected the proposal. 339 342 343 346

Danzō later joined Hanzō in an operation against Akatsuki and pursued Tobi in an attempt to take his Mangekyo Sharingan. Tobi/Yagami turned the pursuit against him, exposing Danzō's implanted eyes and forcing him into a final confrontation with Yagami and Tsunade. Danzō was calculating, secretive, and relentlessly focused on accumulating power in the name of Konoha. He valued manipulation, surveillance, absolute loyalty, and forbidden techniques, particularly favoring the Yamanaka Clan's mental techniques because they suited his methods of control and framing. 92 235

He regularly described his actions as necessary sacrifices for the village, even when coercing clans, experimenting on prisoners, or targeting political rivals. His conviction did not prevent personal ambition: he intended to outlast Hiruzen, strengthen himself with Wood Release and Sharingan, and eventually become Hokage. 247 339
