Background

Yu Xiaogang is the son of Yu Yuanzhen of the Blue Lightning Tyrant Dragon Sect. His martial soul awakened as a pig-like Luo Sanpao with only 0.5 innate soul power; despite receiving resources from his father, he reached only level 29 by age twenty. His limited talent and sensitivity to others' judgment shape much of his pride and insecurity. 29

His prolonged stagnation was ultimately linked to an incomplete martial soul and an unsuitable cultivation path. Luo Sanpao was originally capable of evolving toward the Golden Holy Dragon, but Xiaogang's first two spirit rings failed to support that evolution and left its latent potential dormant. 111

Before the events in Spirit City, Xiaogang was romantically involved with Spirit Hall's Holy Maiden, Bibi Dong. When she intended to seek the Pope's approval for their relationship, he refused her plan, privately envisioning instead bringing her back to his sect to prove himself through the formidable wife he had chosen. 3

Yu Xiaogang is deeply concerned with status and validation. He presents himself confidently before weaker opponents, becoming smug when a rescued girl admires him, yet he is acutely shaken by Qian Mochen's Title Douluo cultivation and his own level-29 limitations. 3 8

He is emotionally volatile and obsessive in love. Bibi Dong's apparent rejection drives him from disbelief into vengeance, while repeated humiliations leave him clinging to the ambition of becoming the “future Grandmaster.” 8 19

Following years of isolation and self-loathing in Norton City, Xiaogang gradually accepts Sun An's care and overcomes much of the emotional burden associated with his previous humiliations. Spirit City Trial

While waiting anxiously for Bibi Dong to return from Spirit Hall, Xiaogang rescues a supposed damsel in distress from three thugs and brings her back to his inn. The rescue was part of Qian Mochen's arranged trial of Xiaogang's devotion. 3

He accepts the girl's seduction, boasts that Bibi Dong is merely a means to prove himself to his father, and tells the girl she is the only one he loves. Bibi Dong overhears everything from the adjacent room. 3

The “girl,” Sun An, is revealed to be male. Xiaogang's discovery causes severe revulsion, vomiting, and a complete mental breakdown. 4 5

Break with Bibi Dong

After recovering enough to write Bibi Dong a letter and visit Spirit Hall, Xiaogang is confronted by Qian Mochen's overwhelming Title Douluo pressure. Bibi Dong declares that she and Qian Mochen are in love and that Xiaogang was only a game. 7 8

Xiaogang leaves Spirit Hall devastated but resolves to seek revenge on both Bibi Dong and Qian Mochen. 8

Golden Iron Triangle

Xiaogang later travels with Flender and Liu Erlong as the Golden Iron Triangle. During an encounter with Qian Mochen's party, an exploding Amethyst Dragon throws him into a soul beast's dung pit, from which Flender rescues him. 19

Failed Wedding to Liu Erlong

Xiaogang and Liu Erlong arrange a village wedding without notifying his family. Qian Mochen sends invitations to the Blue Lightning Tyrant Dragon Sect, prompting Yu Yuanzhen and Yu Luomian to attend. 29 30

The ceremony collapses when Liu Erlong recognizes Yu Luomian as her father and learns that he is Yu Xiaogang's second uncle. Yu Yuanzhen beats Xiaogang severely and threatens to imprison him if he continues seeing Liu Erlong. 31

Qian Mochen then admits that he informed the Yu family. Xiaogang accuses him of robbing him of love and, in a rage, tries to attack him despite his injuries. 31 32

Norton City Reconciliation and Marriage

After the failed wedding, Xiaogang remains in Norton City for years as a junior academy instructor. He becomes despondent, drinks heavily, and continues to dwell on his failures and his hatred of Qian Mochen. 107 108

Qian Mochen brings the now-female Sun An to Norton City as a “gift.” Xiaogang initially rejects her violently, but Sun An secretly cleans his home, prepares his meals, and continues caring for him despite his hostility. 108 109

Xiaogang slowly accepts Sun An's presence, communicating with her through notes, sharing meals with her, and ultimately entering a relationship with her. After attending another couple's ceremony, he proposes marriage. 109 110

Qian Mochen hosts a grand wedding for Xiaogang and Sun An. After the wedding, Xiaogang takes a pill from Qian Mochen that breaks his bottleneck and raises him to level 33. 110 111

Golden Holy Dragon Revelation

Following his breakthrough, Xiaogang discovers that Luo Sanpao has begun developing golden scales and dragon-like traits. Qian Mochen's subsequent booklet explains that Luo Sanpao is an incomplete Golden Holy Dragon rather than an inherently useless martial soul. 111

Realizing that his prior spirit-ring choices had led him down the wrong path, Xiaogang regains hope and resolves to travel to Spirit City with Sun An for access to better cultivation resources. 111
