Background / History

Tang San was a Tang Sect disciple reborn in the Douluo Continent. Retaining the Mysterious Heaven Treasure Record and Tang Sect techniques, he cultivated from an early age while living in Holy Soul Village with his father, Tang Hao. From age four, he cooked for himself because Tang Hao would otherwise not feed him. 1 2

Three days before his spirit awakening, he received the mysterious book Peerless Tang Sect. Because it accurately described his past, habits, cultivation bottleneck, and future, Tang San believed it was guidance from a Tang Sect ancestor. The book reinforced his goal of becoming a powerful Spirit Master and establishing the Tang Sect in the Douluo Continent. 1

Tang Hao challenged him to strike a piece of iron ten thousand times before learning forging. Tang San persevered for eleven days and completed the task ahead of schedule, refining the iron substantially. 3 Following his awakening, he learned that he possessed innate full spirit power, Blue Silver Grass, and the Clear Sky Hammer. 4 8

Old Jack arranged for him to attend Notting Junior Spirit Master Academy. At the academy gate, Tang San retaliated against an insulting gatekeeper with a Tang Sect self-destruction technique before Yu Xiaogang intervened. Impressed by Yu Xiaogang's knowledge, he formally became his disciple through a three-kowtow apprenticeship. 25 6

Personality

Tang San is intensely proud of his Tang Sect identity and sees himself as its future leader in the Douluo Continent. Insults toward himself, Holy Soul Village, or Yu Xiaogang provoke immediate anger. 11 25

He is determined, disciplined, and ambitious. He persisted through Tang Hao's forging challenge, practices his inherited techniques diligently, and regards Peerless Tang Sect as sacred ancestral guidance. 1 3 28

Despite his pride, he respects teachers and accepts instruction when convinced of another's expertise. He reverently acknowledged Yu Xiaogang as his master and trusted him during their Soul Hunting Forest expedition. 6 27 28

Abilities & Skills

Twin Martial Souls

Tang San possesses two martial souls: Blue Silver Grass and the Clear Sky Hammer. He keeps the hammer's existence concealed on Yu Xiaogang's instruction. 4 6

  • Blue Silver Grass — Initially regarded as a “trash” martial soul, but Tang San believes every martial soul has its uses. 6
  • Clear Sky Hammer — His second martial soul and a key factor in his exceptional potential. 4 6
  • His twin martial souls could allow him to fuse eighteen spirit rings in total, which he believes is the requirement for the Lone Bamboo path to immortality. 28

Mysterious Heaven Skill

Tang San's inherited internal cultivation technique from the Mysterious Heaven Treasure Record.

  • Initially stalled at the first-level bottleneck for three months. 1
  • Broke through after fusing his first Lone Bamboo spirit ring. 28
  • Provides the foundation for his physical conditioning and combat strength.

Purple Demon Eye

An eye technique cultivated by absorbing eastern purple energy at sunrise. 1

  • Continued to advance even while the Mysterious Heaven Skill was bottlenecked. 1
  • Allows Tang San to clearly perceive Liu Long's movements in combat. 30

Mysterious Jade Hand

A Tang Sect hand technique.

  • Used to catch the mysteriously delivered Peerless Tang Sect book, which he initially mistook for a hidden weapon. 1

Ghost Shadow Perplexing Steps

A movement technique used for rapid, evasive footwork.

  • Lets Tang San traverse rough mountain terrain at speeds beyond an adult. 2
  • Used to evade and outmaneuver Wang Sheng, Liu Long, and Xiao Chenyu. 26 30

Crane-Catching Dragon-Subduing

A Tang Sect grappling and redirection technique.

  • Used Wang Sheng's momentum to throw him aside. 26
  • Combined with the Blue Silver Pole Vault to strike Liu Long with a bamboo pole. 30

Blue Silver Pole Vault

Tang San's first spirit skill, granted by the Lone Bamboo spirit ring. 28

  • Creates a blue-green bamboo pole.
  • Uses the pole's elasticity to launch Tang San—and, if necessary, an ally—through the air. 28
  • Enabled his escape from a century-level Mandala Snake while carrying Yu Xiaogang. 28
  • Can be combined with Tang Sect movement and combat techniques. 29 30
  • Its implied long-term path is to gather eighteen Lone Bamboo spirit rings and vault into the God Realm. 28

Forging and Hidden Weapons

Tang San trained as a blacksmith under Tang Hao and intends to forge Tang Sect hidden weapons.

  • Completed ten thousand hammer strikes on a raw iron block in eleven days. 3
  • Forged a Silent Sleeve Arrow over three months using Tang Hao's hammer techniques. 17
  • His refined iron is considered valuable enough for Spirit Hall weapon production plans. 21

Relationships

  • Tang Hao — Father. Their relationship improves after Tang Hao learns of Tang San's twin martial souls and potential connection to A Yin's resurrection. Tang Hao later protects him from the gatekeeper. 4 22 30
  • A Yin — Mother. She is alive but weakened after her Sacrifice; after learning of Tang San's hardships, she intends to guide him toward the Blue Silver King and use him in her revenge plans. 22 23
  • Yu Xiaogang — Teacher and master. Tang San formally accepted him as master and relies on his guidance regarding martial souls and spirit rings. 6 27
  • Old Jack — Holy Soul Village chief who supports Tang San's academy enrollment and cultivation path. 8 9 25
  • Xiao Wu — Fellow work-study student and rival. She repeatedly defeats Tang San in sparring, while he remains determined to surpass her after gaining a spirit ring. 26 27
  • Wang Sheng — Dorm Seven's former head. Tang San defeated him and became the new dorm head. 26
  • Xiao Chenyu — Senior noble student defeated and trapped in a bamboo cage by Tang San. 30
  • Xiao Wuji — Author of Peerless Tang Sect, whose updates influence Tang San's choices; Tang San mistakes this guidance for that of a Tang Sect ancestor. 1 28 30
