Formation and Ownership

A Soul Ring forms when a Soul Beast dies and its cultivation combines with its Origin Source imprint. The Origin Source imprint is essential to the process, while the Soul Beast's remaining energy can be depleted before the ring forms. 22 23

A Soul Ring produced by a Soul Beast not personally killed by a Soul Master is generally ownerless and may be absorbed by another Soul Master. Soul Rings from beasts killed by Soul Masters can also be made ownerless by using specialized Soul Tools to erase the original user's aura. 23

A newly formed Soul Ring is unstable. If its Origin Source and energy are not placed into a suitable vessel, they lose their connection and the ring dissipates within roughly one shichen. 348

Absorption

Physical limits

A Soul Master's physical constitution determines the maximum age of Soul Ring they can safely absorb. An ordinary first-ring Soul Master can withstand only a little more than four hundred years; attempting a ring above five hundred years risks being burst apart by its energy. 154

A sufficiently powerful body can surpass these conventional limits. Jing Chen endured the six-hundred-year Ice Crystal Behemoth ring as his first Soul Ring because his physique greatly exceeded that of an ordinary level-ten Soul Master. 9

• Soul Ring energy tempers the body during absorption, improving physical attributes. 23
• Higher-aged rings generally contain more energy and can provide larger increases in Soul Power. 9 62

Energy-depleted Soul Rings

Yi Yi can devour a Soul Beast's energy and life force before or after its death without preventing the beast from producing a Soul Ring. The resulting ring may retain only the Soul Beast's Origin Source imprint. 22 23

This method makes a high-aged Soul Ring far easier to absorb, but removes much of the normal benefit gained from its energy.

Soul Skills and Ring Placement

Soul Skills are influenced by both the absorbed Soul Ring and the user's Martial Soul. A Soul Ring of the same attribute may produce different types of skills depending on the Martial Soul receiving it. 340

• Later Soul Ring positions produce stronger Soul Skills when rings are of comparable age. 346
• The seventh ring is especially important because it determines the strength of a Soul Master's Martial Soul Avatar. Jing Chen therefore assigned the Time Beast's ring to his seventh Time and Space Divine Tower position. 346
• A Soul Ring can be attached to either of Jing Chen's Twin Martial Souls, provided its attributes and intended use are suitable. 261 353
• Rings whose attributes do not suit either Martial Soul may be rejected even if their age is exceptionally high, as Jing Chen did with the Evil Eye Tyrant Sovereign's Spirit-type ring. 348

Notable Soul Skills

• Time Pendulum — Jing Chen's ninth Time and Space Divine Tower Soul Skill manifests a massive pendulum that slows time across a wide area to one-tenth of its normal flow. 355
• Space Lock — Jing Chen's eighth Time and Space Divine Tower Soul Skill restrains a target and prevents movement. 355
• Water-body transformation — Jing Chen's eighth Qilin Soul Ring can create localized heavy rain and turn his body into water, allowing attacks to pass through him for ten seconds. 335
• Ice Burst combination — The rain created by Jing Chen's eighth Soul Skill can be combined with Ice Burst Technique, turning a seemingly non-offensive ability into a large-scale explosive attack. 335

Interaction with the Time and Space Divine Tower

The Time and Space Divine Tower is Jing Chen's second Martial Soul. Unlike his Mutated Water Qilin, it initially possessed no Soul Rings and required time- or space-attributed rings to develop its internal environment. 261

The Space Unicorn's ring became the tower's first Soul Ring, strengthening the space attribute within Jing Chen's Soul Power and expanding the tower's lowest level from roughly a two-hundred-meter radius to more than three hundred meters. 261

Time-attributed rings improve the tower's Power of Time. After Jing Chen absorbed a Time Butterfly ring, the internal flow of time increased so that three outside hours equaled five hours within the tower. 280

Jing Chen planned to attach five time-attributed rings and four space-attributed rings to the tower. Absorbing such rings inside the tower allows part of their energy to be absorbed by its barriers, further strengthening its time and space properties. 346

Soul Ring and Soul Bone Fusion

A Soul Ring and Soul Bone originating from the same Soul Beast can be fused before absorption. The Soul Bone serves as a new vessel for the Soul Ring's Origin Source and energy, preventing the ring from dissipating. 348

• The Soul Ring's energy and Origin Source must be transferred together in a controlled ratio; separating them risks destabilizing the ring. 351
• Fusion requires extremely precise energy control. A minor error can cause the entire process to fail. 351
• Jing Chen and Yi Yi successfully fused the Evil Eye Tyrant Sovereign's ring and skull bone, producing a soul bone over nine hundred thousand years old. 352
