Just as Zhao Wuji announced that Gu Han and the others had passed the assessment, a commotion at the academy entrance drew everyone's attention.
Flender appeared at the edge of the grounds at some point. He adjusted his glasses, exchanged a glance with Zhao Wuji, and the two walked toward the entrance together.
Gu Han and the others followed, curious to see who was making such a scene at the academy gates.
As they arrived at the entrance, Li Yusong was struggling to hold back a disheveled, frantic-looking middle-aged man. No one knew who he was, assuming he was just a vagrant.
He was clutching a blue-clad youth behind him with a death grip.
"Let me in! Flender, get out here, Flender!" the frantic man roared toward the interior.
"Xiaogang, is that you?" Flender looked at the man, calling out with a hint of uncertainty.
Hearing the voice, Yu Xiaogang looked over. Seeing Flender emerge, he immediately broke free from Li Yusong, rushed forward, and grabbed Flender by the collar.
"Flender, why won't you accept my disciple? He is a genius! His Blue Silver Grass is not a trash martial soul at all!"
Flender looked at his old friend, who looked like a madman, a flicker of disbelief crossing his eyes.
In his memory, Yu Xiaogang was a man of stable temperament who would never lose his temper so easily. What on earth had happened to him today?
"Xiaogang, calm down."
Flender pressed down on his shoulders and said, "Look at yourself. There are so many students here; do you have no regard for your own image?"
"I am perfectly fine! I am very calm!"
"Do you think I've gone mad, too? You know what kind of person I am! I tell you, I haven't lost my mind!"
Yu Xiaogang's eyes were bloodshot as he shouted sharply at Flender.
"It must be your testing crystal that's faulty. Tang San was clearly a level twenty-nine Great Spirit Master before!"
"Or... or someone is playing tricks. They must have a grudge against Tang San."
As he spoke, his gaze subconsciously swept over Gu Han and the others who had just walked out, but thanks to the Thousand-Change Mask, Yu Xiaogang did not recognize Gu Han or Xiao Wu.
Flender's brow furrowed as he looked at Li Yusong. Li Yusong spoke up helplessly:
"Dean, I tested him myself. His bone age is appropriate, but his spirit power is indeed only level twenty. However..." Li Yusong suddenly changed his tone, continuing:
"When the test first began, Tang San was indeed a level twenty-nine Great Spirit Master. But after a moment, his second spirit ring suddenly vanished, and then he was at level twenty."
"That's bizarre. Could he have faked his spirit power?" Flender had actually just been wondering if the crystal was the problem.
Flender looked at Tang San behind Yu Xiaogang, noticing that the boy didn't look devastated by the loss of his spirit ring; he seemed to be deep in thought.
He knew Yu Xiaogang too well. If he didn't accept Tang San now, this sudden blow might completely break him.
"Xiaogang," Flender's tone softened.
"For your sake, I will allow him to enroll."
"But Shrek only accepts monsters. If he cannot prove he can become a monster later on, don't blame me for making him leave."
Hearing that Flender was willing to accept Tang San, Yu Xiaogang's emotions calmed slightly, though he still muttered stubbornly:
"Tang San will prove he is a monster. I will also prove that my theories are absolutely correct. I will prove it to them."
The disturbance subsided, Tang San was permitted to enroll, and Yu Xiaogang was sent off to rest by Flender.
Gu Han watched the scene with a calm heart.
Yu Xiaogang had integrated the theories he had studied his entire life into his very existence; it was not something others could easily change.
Gu Han took Xiao Wu's hand and wandered around Shrek Academy to familiarize themselves with the environment.
However, they hadn't gone far when a lecherous voice rang out.
"Yo, new students? You look quite pretty."
A chubby, red-clad Ma Hongjun walked over, rubbing his hands together. His small eyes scanned Xiao Wu with ill intent, his eyes bloodshot as if influenced by his Evil Fire.
Xiao Wu frowned at the sight and hid behind Gu Han.
"Get lost." Gu Han's eyes turned cold.
Ma Hongjun didn't care at all, chuckling, "Senior is just looking out for you. With me covering you here at Shrek Academy, no one will dare to bully you."
Before Ma Hongjun could finish his sentence, Gu Han moved.
He didn't even use a spirit skill; he simply stepped forward and delivered a punch containing the power of a Spirit King directly into Ma Hongjun's stomach.
"Boom."
Ma Hongjun let out a miserable shriek, flying backward like a red ball before crashing heavily into the ground, leaving a large crater in his wake.
"You dare hit me?!"
Ma Hongjun was both shocked and enraged. As he struggled to climb to his feet, his Evil Fire surged, and his Evil Fire Phoenix martial soul instantly possessed him. Purple-red flames rose from his body.
Two yellow spirit rings lit up. "Second Spirit Skill."
He opened his mouth, intending to spew a Phoenix Fire Line at Gu Han, who stood in the distance.
However, Gu Han's speed was even faster than his.
The Sky Frost Sword appeared in his hand instantly, yet he did not summon any spirit rings. Relying solely on the ultimate ice attribute inherent to his martial soul, he swung the blade.
A highly condensed icy sword aura struck Ma Hongjun's body.
"Hiss!"
The moment the scorching flames of the Evil Fire Phoenix touched the cold aura of the Sky Frost Sword, they seemed to encounter their nemesis, emitting violent hissing sounds before rapidly extinguishing.
The flames covering Ma Hongjun's entire body failed to withstand the sword aura, and a layer of white frost instantly coated him.
His evil fire was forcibly suppressed, and he was so cold that his teeth chattered; even if given the chance, he could not muster the will to resist.
"If you dare harass her again, I will cripple you."
Gu Han sheathed his sword, his tone flat yet laced with a threat, as if he truly would cripple Ma Hongjun should he fail to heed the warning.
Looking at Gu Han's eyes and the longsword radiating a biting chill, Ma Hongjun nodded repeatedly in terror before scrambling away on all fours.
Xiao Wu gazed at Gu Han's figure, her eyes filled with reliance and warmth, trusting him all the more.
Just then, a sharp aura suddenly locked onto Gu Han.
Although this presence was immense, it was different from any hostility he had felt before.
Sensing something, Gu Han looked up toward a direction outside the academy.
He knew that Sword Douluo Chen Xin had come for him.
