Background

Gu Han transmigrated into Douluo Continent as an orphan living in Holy Soul Village. Old Jack provided him with a small thatched hut out of pity. Soon after awakening in this new world, Gu Han bound the Plot Modification System, which rewards alterations to established destiny with Magic Modification Points. 1

At the village spirit awakening, Gu Han secretly reduced Tang San's innate spirit power from innate full soul power to level seven. His own martial soul awakened as the mutated Karma Scissors with innate full soul power. 1 2

Rather than immediately joining Spirit Hall, Gu Han accepted a work-study placement at Nuoding Junior Spirit Master Academy so he could reach Xiao Wu. There, he severed the still-weak karmic thread linking Xiao Wu and Tang San before they could form their original connection. 2

Personality

Gu Han is calculating and composed, habitually concealing the Plot Modification System and presenting plausible explanations for his abnormal growth. He views established destinies as obstacles to be redirected, and repeatedly acts before others recognize the underlying causal chain. 1 9 25

He strongly values independence. He refused Yu Xiaogang as a teacher, declined Sword Douluo Chen Xin's offer of formal discipleship, and later turned down the Seven Treasure Glazed Tile Sect's offer of full support. Gu Han instead insists on relying on his own sword and strength. 3 18 26

Despite his pragmatism, Gu Han is protective of those he cares about. He was injured saving Xiao Wu from a Thorn Boar, shielded her soul beast identity, opposed Qian Renxue's forced departure despite punishment, and repeatedly intervened against Tang Hao. 6 8 12 26 27

Nuoding Academy and Spirit Hall Appointment

At Nuoding Academy, Gu Han becomes Dorm Seven's boss, protects work-study students, and grows closer to Xiao Wu. Tang Hao's attempt to capture him triggers Gu Han's breakthrough to level 20; Spirit Hall subsequently takes him in, and Bibi Dong appoints him Holy Son. 4 7 9

Spirit City and Qian Renxue

Shrek Academy and Conflict with Tang Hao

Founding Karma Pavilion

With Bibi Dong's approval, Gu Han establishes Karma Pavilion in Spirit City as an independent but Spirit Hall-loyal organization focused on intelligence gathering and resolving karmic problems. Its stated tenets are: “Observe all karma, trace the cause and effect. Resolve worldly worries, calm the obsessions within.” 30 31

Dugu Bo's Poison Backlash

While investigating spirit beast resentment in the Withered Bone Forest, Gu Han discovers Dugu Bo's poison backlash through Karma Sight. He earns Dugu Bo's tentative trust with Ice Heart Paste and leads him toward the Ice and Fire Yin Yang Well under mutually agreed conditions. 32 33 34
