Background / History

Ice and Fire Yin Yang Well

Tang San, identified as the Tang Sect’s ancestor, visited the Ice and Fire Yin Yang Well roughly twenty thousand years earlier. He removed nearly all herbs during his first stay, later returned to alter the environment for plant growth, and left instructions allowing token-bearers to select seven Heavenly Materials and Earthly Treasures. 254 255

After Tang Sect disciples began following these instructions, they periodically harvested immortal herbs from the well. The sect later declined and lost the map to the site, but regained access ten thousand years ago after Huo Yuhao arrived using a route left by Tang San. 255

Tang Sect experts subsequently took control of the well by force. The resident plant soul beasts were told to cooperate or lose their cultivation and intelligence; several who resisted were severely injured by the sect’s Titled Douluo and Limit Douluo. 255

The well became one of the sect’s most important treasure grounds, supplying immortal herbs that improved the aptitude and power of its geniuses. Its disappearance later threatened the sect’s future strength and influence. 249 403

Growth and Organization

Following its revival ten thousand years ago, the Tang Sect developed into a commercial empire spanning three continents. Its Soul Guidance Weapons became important enough that the Federation military sought them out, giving the sect substantial influence within military circles. 197

Tang Sect Headquarters was located in Shrek City and contained the sect’s strongest military force. Its upper echelon was deeply intertwined with Shrek Academy: many leaders had studied there, and prominent figures could hold positions in both organizations. 199

The sect maintained branches throughout the Federation, as well as branches and business interests on the Star Luo and Dou Ling Continents. 188 455 502

Leadership

  • Zang Xin — The Amorous Douluo; a Demi-God-level powerhouse associated with Tang Sect leadership and a frequent visitor to the Ice and Fire Yin Yang Well. He was killed during the conflict with Dragon Phoenix Hall. 37 173 204 251
  • Bai Fei — Former Tang Sect Leader and a Quasi-God whose depleted vitality limited his displayed strength. After Zang Xin’s death, he was appointed Sect Leader and restrained members demanding immediate revenge. 199 204
  • Hu Jie — Stern Sect Leader of the Star Luo Tang Sect Headquarters; led the investigation into the deaths of Tang Sect personnel near Dragon Valley. 137
  • Cao Dezhi — A Blood God Legion figure and Zang Xin’s closest friend. He sought to avenge Zang Xin and remained a major supporter of Tang Sect and Shrek due to their contributions to guarding the Abyss Channel. 204 390

Assets and Capabilities

Soul Guidance Technology

The Tang Sect’s core business was arms dealing. It sold Soul Guidance Weapons to the Federation military while retaining certain weapon types and research projects as private reserves. 311 421

  • Its research institute was described as capable of competing with—and in cutting-edge research surpassing—the Federation Research Institute. 286
  • It developed concealed, high-destructive shells and weapons designed to target Titled Douluo. 286
  • It made phased progress on a Super Energy Soul Guidance Array Defense System, deploying it early to protect its headquarters from threats such as a God-Slaying Weapon. 286
  • It secretly developed three types of high-destructive shells that had never been publicly revealed. 421
  • Tang Sect weapons were considered sufficiently advanced that Gu Yue Na judged some examples potentially beyond the Federation Research Institute’s capabilities. 180

Tang Sect Legion

The Tang Sect maintained a private army of roughly three thousand Soul Masters.

  • The legion was equipped with top-tier gear comparable to the Central Army Group’s equipment. 476
  • Its training methods were copied from the Central Army Group’s military system. 476
  • During the battle for Tang Sect Headquarters, its internal attack systems inflicted heavy losses on the Western Legion. 501

Medical and Logistical Support

  • Tang Sect branches operated Soul Tool vehicles staffed by healing Soul Masters, providing treatment and protection for injured Shrek personnel. 56
  • The sect deployed personnel and monitoring equipment around Dragon Valley while attempting to reopen its spatial passage. 132

Political Conflict with the Federation

The Tang Sect’s commercial ambitions created lasting tension with the Federation Government. Seeking markets beyond its saturated civilian Soul Tool business, it attempted to sell combat-type Soul Guidance Weapons to Star Luo and Dou Ling. 311

The Federation opposed these sales over concerns that its technological advantage would be leaked to other continents. Tang Sect and Shrek Academy forced the dispute into a seven-match wager; their representatives won the first four matches, securing permission to sell weapons below level seven. 311

After the wager, the Federation gradually revoked Tang Sect privileges. Military leaders also feared that dependence on a civilian faction’s weapons could leave the armed forces vulnerable to hidden controls, technological exposure, or betrayal. 188 311

Story Role / Major Arcs

Dragon Valley Incident

Tang Sect personnel were investigating changes to Dragon Valley when Yun Ze and Gu Yue Na emerged from its Space Passage. Following the deaths of more than one hundred Tang Sect members, Hu Jie led a search for evidence and vowed to identify those responsible. 132 137 150

The incident intensified Tang Sect hostility toward Dragon Phoenix Hall. Zang Xin later died during the wider conflict, prompting internal calls for immediate retaliation. 183 204

Conflict with Dragon Phoenix Hall

After Yun Ze killed Tang Sect genius Miao Yong, the sect demanded an explanation and compensation. Miao Yong had been viewed as a potential future Sect Leader and a likely Ultimate Ice Limit Douluo, making his death a major loss. 307

Tang Sect and Shrek Academy then submitted an application seeking Yun Ze’s disqualification. Their continuing dispute with Dragon Phoenix Hall became part of a larger political struggle over whether the Federation would favor Shrek and Tang Sect or their rivals. 309

Dragon Phoenix Hall Explosion

Tang Sect secretly installed shells around Dragon Phoenix Hall, using an underground chamber accessible through an Earth-attribute Super Douluo’s abilities. Yun Ze detected the ongoing installation without their knowledge. 423 432

A reconstruction of past events showed a Golden Pangolin Martial Soul user installing a shell before the explosion. Spirit Pagoda records identified the man as Xue Lei, a Tang Sect Battle Soul Hall member, leading the Federation to publicly connect Tang Sect to the attack. 447

Tang Sect leadership denied the accusation, calling the reconstruction fabricated, but the incident drove public outrage and the Federation’s decision to treat Shrek and Tang Sect as terrorist organizations. 448 455

Fall of Headquarters

After the terrorist designation, the Federation seized Tang Sect properties, sealed several hundred branches, and arrested or pursued its personnel. Remaining members gathered in Shrek City alongside Shrek defenders and allied sects. 455 457

During the assault on Shrek City, Tang Sect Headquarters was devastated by bombardment. With no escape through the surrounding barrier, its remaining defenders made a final stand against the Western Legion and Central Army Group. 501

The battle ended with every Tang Sect expert still resisting at headquarters killed. Although the Federation occupied the headquarters and began purging Tang Sect assets and remnants, the organization’s branches on all three continents meant its complete destruction remained unfinished. 502 543

  • Shrek Academy — Brother faction and closest institutional ally; their leadership and political networks overlap extensively. 56 199
  • Tang San — Tang Sect ancestor whose actions established the sect’s long-term connection to the Ice and Fire Yin Yang Well. 254 255
  • Dragon Phoenix Hall — Principal enemy in the sect’s later conflicts; Tang Sect blamed it for Zang Xin’s death and Miao Yong’s killing. 204 307
  • Federation Government — Former commercial and military partner whose relationship with the sect deteriorated into open political conflict and armed suppression. 311 455
  • Ice and Fire Yin Yang Well plant soul beasts — Forced into cooperation after Tang Sect took control of the well; many retained resentment toward the sect. 255
