Background / History
Tang San lived in Holy Soul Village with his father, Tang Hao, who had worked there as a blacksmith before disappearing. Village chief Old Jack had cared for Tang San and hoped he would return as a Spirit Master to protect the village. 23
He became Yu Xiaogang's disciple and displayed deep loyalty to him, treating an insult toward his teacher as intolerable. Tang San defended Yu Xiaogang when Song Ye disparaged him outside the Soul Hunting Forest. 10 11
Song Ye later revealed that Tang San is Tang Hao's son and that his mother was the transformed Blue Silver Emperor who sacrificed herself for Tang Hao. 22 Song Ye also characterizes Tang San as someone with immense destiny, twin martial souls, exceptional aptitude, and a future path toward godhood. 37
Personality
Tang San is intensely loyal to his teacher, initially confronting Song Ye solely because Song Ye insulted Yu Xiaogang. His sensitivity to being watched, use of the Purple Demon Eye to eavesdrop from a distance, and desire for a justifiable reason to act reflect an assassin-like caution. 10 11
Despite his loyalty, Tang San is skeptical when claims affect his future. Song Ye's criticism of Yu Xiaogang's theories and of Tang San's first Soul Ring gradually makes him question his teacher's competence. 12 14 15 He later presses Yu Xiaogang for the promised method of cultivating twin martial souls, threatening their relationship through his growing distrust. 16 41

Relationships

- Tang Hao — Father. Tang Hao secretly protects Tang San and is identified as the main reason Song Ye and Bibi Dong do not move openly against him. 9 22
- A Yin / Blue Silver Emperor — Mother. She was a transformed soul beast who sacrificed herself for Tang Hao; Tang San inherited Blue Silver Grass. 22
- Song Ye — Rival and perceived future obstacle. Song Ye regards Tang San as an enemy who must be recruited or eliminated, while Tang San's confidence in Yu Xiaogang is undermined by Song Ye's criticism. 9 12 15
