Background / History

Yu Xiaogang was the youngest son of Yu Yuanzhen, the Thunder Douluo and Clan Leader of the Blue Lightning Tyrant Dragon Clan. His inherited dragon bloodline suffered a malignant mutation: his expected Light Sacred Dragon martial soul degenerated into the pig- or dog-like Luo San Pao, leaving him with only Innate Soul Power Half Level. The mutation and his lack of progress made him the clan’s “waste” and a subject of ridicule. 239 443 606

Despite this, he trained obsessively. After leaving the Jade Dragon Mountain Range, he cultivated every day until his body could no longer endure it. He became fixated on Ling Yi after learning that Ling Yi—also born with Innate Soul Power Half Level—had already reached Soul Elder, and began openly seeking information about him. 239 240

Yu Xiaogang spent nearly half a year in Gengxin City studying forging under the Blacksmith Grandmaster A Gu. He passed the Intermediate Blacksmith examination with a Grade B evaluation, then abandoned forging and turned to herbal-medicine research. His work at Lingyun City’s Martial Soul Research Institute contributed to the development of Super Trauma Medicine. 265 389 390

Ling Yi and Wei Yi identified six possible bloodline-advancement routes for Luo San Pao, including the Light Sacred Dragon and Blue Lightning Tyrant Dragon. Yu Xiaogang initially pursued the Light Sacred Dragon route, using his blood and soul power to cultivate pure Dragon Force, but ultimately gave it up after failing to secure the necessary path and resources. 454 456 471

He later entered Slaughter City and survived its trials and the Hell Road. This experience evolved Luo San Pao toward the Blood Shadow Demon Dragon path, granted him the Slaughter God Domain, and exposed him to the influence of the Blood Red Nine-Headed Bat King and Hannibal. His rapid rise in power came with growing instability, bloodlust, and dependence on brutal cultivation methods. 544 548 549

As an Eight-Ring Soul Douluo, Yu Xiaogang defeated Tuoba Xi and later overcame Tang Hao, provoking continent-wide rumors that he had become a Fallen Soul Master. Multiple powers pursued him. At Lost Trace Grand Canyon, while attempting to obtain his ninth Soul Ring, he was surrounded by Ah Rou, Ah Yin, Liu Erlong, Tang Hao, Bibi Dong, and others. He assumed the Blood Red Nine-Headed Evil Dragon King True Body, but was mortally wounded after a prolonged battle. Before dying, he expressed regret and asked that Ling Yi be told he had wronged him. 1 605 606 607

Appearance

Yu Xiaogang’s appearance changed drastically as his cultivation advanced. In his later years, he was described as a composed and striking black-clad man whose presence made even his father struggle to recognize him. 605

  • Earlier in life, he was stiff-faced, dejected, and physically unremarkable. 643
  • After abandoning the Light Sacred Dragon route, he appeared haggard, unshaven, and poorly dressed. 471
  • As a Soul Douluo, he had fair jade-like skin, sharp brows, a high nose bridge, thin lips, and black eyes that occasionally flashed dark red. 605
  • His later eyes could become blood-red when his killing intent or instability surfaced. 547 584
  • His martial soul ultimately took the form of a blood-colored, multi-headed demonic dragon. 580 606

Personality

Yu Xiaogang was intensely diligent, proud, and deeply insecure. Years of humiliation over his mutated martial soul made him hypersensitive to contempt and desperate to prove that he was not inferior to the prodigies of his generation. He especially envied Ling Yi’s achievements and Tang Hao’s status as a celebrated heir of the Upper Three Sects. 240 443 444

He was aloof around unfamiliar people, but could become calculating when he saw an advantage in building a connection. His initial friendliness toward Eryue Xuan at the Martial Soul Research Institute was motivated by a rapid assessment of the situation rather than open warmth. 383

After Slaughter City, his confidence hardened into arrogance and rebellion. He rejected Ling Yi’s advice to halt cultivation and stabilize his mind, convinced that he could resolve Luo San Pao’s mutation through his own power. The influence of the Blood Red Nine-Headed Bat King amplified his resentment, impatience, and attraction to slaughter. 549 563

Abilities & Skills

Luo San Pao / Blood Dragon Evolution

Yu Xiaogang’s martial soul was originally a malignant mutation of the Blue Lightning Tyrant Dragon bloodline. Its latent Light Sacred Dragon potential was later displaced by a blood- and slaughter-aligned evolution.

  • Originally manifested as Luo San Pao, a pig- or dog-like mutated martial soul. 443 606
  • Had a documented Light Sacred Dragon advancement route, supported by Dragon Force refined from Yu Xiaogang’s bloodline. 454 456
  • Abandoned the Light Sacred Dragon path and instead chose the Blood Shadow Demon Dragon route. 471 548
  • Eventually manifested as the Three-Headed Blood Dragon King and later the Blood Eight-Headed Evil Dragon. 580 606
  • Its heads were not fully under Yu Xiaogang’s control; Hannibal and the Blood Red Nine-Headed Bat King controlled separate heads. 545 548

Slaughter God Domain

After escaping Slaughter City, Yu Xiaogang acquired a powerful killing domain.

  • Ling Yi judged it comparable to Tang Hao’s Slaughter God Domain and stronger in suppression due to its additional dragon might. 549
  • The domain intensified Yu Xiaogang’s accumulated negative emotions and contributed to his mental instability. 550
  • Its presence, along with his martial soul’s appearance, helped fuel accusations that he was a Fallen Soul Master. 606

Martial Arts

Yu Xiaogang trained in Ling Yi’s body-tempering and martial-arts methods, using them to compensate for his earlier lack of combat power.

  • Mastered Dragon Lizard Shakes Armor, the eighth stance of Beast Martial Soul Xingyi Boxing Stance I. 453
  • Mastered Flood Dragon Snake Shot from Beast Martial Soul Xingyi Boxing Stance II. 454
  • Learned Transforming Strength and used the technique “Hitting Someone Like Hanging a Picture” to overpower Bing Le. 547
  • Combined martial-arts energy with Level 90 soul power to kill a defensive seven-ring Soul Sage with a palm strike. 607

Research and Theory

Yu Xiaogang possessed broad theoretical knowledge acquired through independent study and his time in Lingyun City.

  • Studied forging under A Gu and attained Intermediate Blacksmith certification. 265
  • Participated in herbal-medicine research and was credited with refining Super Trauma Medicine. 389 390
  • Researched martial-soul mutations, bloodlines, soul beasts, and cultivation methods. 597
  • Later became Tang San’s teacher and investigated unusual similarities among people and martial souls, suspecting a connection to Mirror Image Beasts. 670 705

Equipment / Items

  • Black-Striped Snake Lizard Right Leg Bone — a 5,700-year soul bone used to force his breakthrough to Level 30. 449 453

Relationships

  • Ling Yi — fellow Innate Soul Power Half Level Soul Master, mentor-like benefactor, research associate, and object of Yu Xiaogang’s envy. Yu Xiaogang repeatedly sought Ling Yi’s guidance despite accusing him of hypocrisy. 382 443 549 550
  • Yu Yuanzhen — father and Clan Leader of the Blue Lightning Tyrant Dragon Clan. Yu Yuanzhen was harshly critical of Yu Xiaogang’s failures but later supported his pursuit of resources for bloodline evolution. 389 456 605
  • Yu Luomian — second uncle. Their relationship became openly hostile after Yu Xiaogang’s return from Slaughter City. 548
  • Luo San Pao — Yu Xiaogang’s mutated martial soul and central source of his power; their connection became fractured as outside consciousnesses gained control of its heads. 471 545 548
  • Hannibal — a soul beast and former Slaughter City guard associated with Luo San Pao’s left head. Yu Xiaogang cared for him while he was injured, but later Hannibal influenced his martial soul. 471 548
  • Blood Red Nine-Headed Bat King — malignant consciousness connected to Luo San Pao’s right head; manipulated Yu Xiaogang toward slaughter and exploited his impatience. 548 549 563
  • Tang Hao — Yu Xiaogang’s admired rival. Tang Hao initially looked down on him, later lost to him, and became a benchmark for Yu Xiaogang’s strength. 443 450 549 607
  • Tang Xiao — Tang Hao’s elder brother; treated Yu Xiaogang more courteously and helped save him near Slaughter City. 450
  • Flender — later ally and member of the Golden Iron Triangle; introduced Yu Xiaogang to the Dragon Claw Orchid and worked alongside him in the extra-story continuity. 550 640
  • Tang San — Yu Xiaogang’s disciple in the extra-story continuity. Yu Xiaogang later apologized after realizing his guidance had mishandled Tang San’s Blue Silver Grass cultivation. 651 679 705
