The Western Two Saints had truly spent a fortune to repay their karmic debt to the Heavenly Dao.
Li Su could fully imagine how much they had sacrificed to lay the foundations for the script of Journey to the West, to send Western Buddhism eastward, and to fulfill the vows upon which they had founded their teachings.
Daoist Duobao, the chief disciple of the Interception Sect, had become the head of Buddhism. At the same time, the Elucidation Sect, led by Daoist Randeng, had formed Buddhism's second-largest outside faction.
And in the very end, the third party led by Amitabha Buddha—the native people of the Western Heaven—had, all the way until the end of Journey to the West, only seen Maitreya Buddha get a chance to take the stage. Everyone else had been Daoists, or people who had once been Daoists.
This was enough to make the neighbors weep. After the Investiture of the Gods, Heavenly Dao Saints could not descend to the mortal world and instead dwelled beyond the heavens. Not only had the Western Two Saints been swept out the door, they had to laboriously repay their karmic debts—and by the end of it all, even their own nest had been dug clean out by the Elucidation and Interception Sects.
At that thought, Li Su drew a breath and steadied his mind. It was fine, fine. Don't panic, don't panic. As long as he followed the script, there should not be any major problems.
Besides, though World Fragments were inherently perilous, there was, in truth, still a sliver of life within them.
This time, that chance of survival lay in finding the anomaly within the instance, rooting it out, and killing it.
Li Su did not think a Saint would personally enter the fray to deal with him.
