Teachings and Internal Rules
The sect is widely known for an interest-first doctrine summarized as “recognizing money but not people.” Its rules treat contracts, compensation, and shared benefits as enforceable foundations of sect discipline rather than informal customs 470.
- Paid protection — Disciples may receive fair protection when they are not at fault; enemies at Great Luo realm or above are discouraged from openly targeting them. New disciples are nevertheless told to conceal their affiliation until formally admitted and to learn survival techniques quickly 458.
- Contracted intervention — The sect maintains formal prices for an appearance, speaking, or fighting on a client’s behalf. Fees vary by distance and service level, outsiders pay double, Elucidation Sect clients receive a one-third reduction, and payment is required in advance 469.
- Privacy as property — A disciple’s privacy is treated as personal property. An investigator must prepare assets worth ten times their own net worth; if betrayal cannot be proven, the investigated disciple receives tenfold compensation 471.
- Collective profit-sharing — Seventy percent of the Hanging Sky Sect’s tribute was distributed throughout the Interception Sect, giving the entire sect a stake in protecting the arrangement 470.
- Internal enforcement — Disciples who harm sect interests can be punished by their own superiors or fellow disciples, even when subordinate sects take no action 470.
- Pragmatic discipline — Actions that other great sects might classify as betrayal may instead incur financial penalties within the Interception Sect, making outside powers wary of its unconventional rules 503.

History
Rise through the Upper Nether Sect incident
Li Su became an official disciple after selling intelligence concerning Skinny Monkey’s group and the Three Lives Grass, receiving 180,000 merit points 458. Soon afterward, the Interception Sect’s Saint intervened against the Upper Nether Sect after one of its Great Luo cultivators targeted Li Su; the Great Luo was killed and the Upper Nether Sect collapsed 469 470.
The Hanging Sky Sect subsequently pledged allegiance to the Interception Sect, surrendered its wealth, and adopted the sect’s interest-based doctrine. Under their agreement, the Interception Sect received seventy percent of Upper Domain proceeds while Hanging Sky Sect retained thirty percent 470.
Recognition of Li Su as Dao Child
Li Su accepted a public battle for the sect and was granted the title of Dao Child, along with a protective jade crown 471. His status changed the sect’s standing in individual combat, an area where it had previously lacked an exceptional Golden Core or Celestial Immortal prodigy 514.
When a Heavenfire Sect Great Luo attacked Li Su, the Interception Sect initiated a holy war and deployed the Nine-Bend Yellow River Formation. Its disciples treated harm to the Dao Child as grounds for uncompromising sect-wide retaliation 531.
Underworld crisis and internal betrayal
In Fengdu, Black Mountain Sect pressure and the actions of Myriad Forms Palace led to the arrest, injury, and deaths of Interception Sect disciples. The sect’s formation-centered methods were unusually constrained by the Underworld environment and the absence of its upper ranks 890 905.
The crisis was worsened by an internal mole leaking the locations of outer-city disciples. The traitor was eventually exposed as Many Treasures, the sect’s eldest senior brother, who sold the sect’s Underworld disciples to Black Mountain Sect in exchange for resources and a path toward the Wheel-Turning King’s divine throne 911 927.
Many Treasures’ betrayal triggered a civil war above Fengdu City. Li Su, acting as Blood Sword Venerable, fought him while Interception Sect disciples formed a perimeter formation around the battlefield 929.
Fengdu expansion and the Western Alliance
After the civil war, Li Su instructed the sect to cultivate Nether Script, seek Fengdu offices, and cooperate with the Buddhist Sect, Ghost Sect, and Western Elucidation Sect once sufficient divine positions had been secured 932.
Within nine days, the sect took control of the Nether Law Office and secured key posts in the Six Cases Merit Office, including the Heavenly Office and Human Office 940. Zhao Ming then negotiated an alliance that preserved the Interception Sect’s Bureau of Nether Laws and two Six Offices positions while sharing remaining offices with its three partners 941.
The four sects established the Western Alliance to expel Black Mountain Sect and jointly govern the Underworld. Li Su’s two scripture passages were included in the alliance agreement as paid teachings, with derived arts likewise subject to payment 943.
Relationships
- Li Su / Yang Jian — The sect’s Dao Child; his emergence strengthened the sect’s reputation in individual combat and helped reverse its Fengdu crisis 471 932.
- Hanging Sky Sect — Subordinate sect that pledged allegiance after the Upper Nether Sect’s destruction and pays the Interception Sect a seventy-percent share of Upper Domain profits 470.
- Heavenfire Sect — Enemy sect subjected to a holy war after its Great Luo attacked Li Su 531.
- Black Mountain Sect — Major rival responsible for sustained attacks in Fengdu and for recruiting Many Treasures as an internal traitor 906 927.
- Human Sect — A complicated allied sect: Li Su was forcibly made a Human Sect disciple despite already belonging to the Interception Sect, causing a dispute between the two sects’ Saints 804 805.
- Buddhist Sect, Ghost Sect, and Western Elucidation Sect — Partners in the Western Alliance, formed to drive Black Mountain Sect from the Underworld and divide Fengdu authority 941 943.
- Heavenly Court — Longstanding customer and ally; it has hired Interception Sect members extensively and receives a thirty-percent VIP discount 607.
Notable Characteristics
- The sect historically emphasizes gradual collective advancement over cultivating rare, heaven-defying prodigies, causing it to perform poorly in inheritance-focused secret realms 571.
- Its formation methods become more dangerous as more disciples cooperate; groups of five or more can contend with comparable Black Mountain Sect forces 905.
- It possesses an unusually large disciple population in Fengdu—nearly 20,000, more than the Buddhist, Ghost, and Western Elucidation Sects combined 940.
- Before the ancient Investiture of the Gods conflict, it was regarded as the greatest sect beneath heaven; its defeat is attributed to four sects joining against it 531 958.
