"However, this cure remains imperfect, and the damage it inflicts on the human body is far greater than my own therapy."
After the initial surprise, the Plague Doctor voiced his assessment of the T-Virus's flaws, then turned his head toward Sui Bian and asked, "Mr. Sui, you have provided an excellent subject for experimentation. In return, what kind of assistance do you require from me?"
"Doctor," Sui Bian said, gazing at the D-Class personnel who had turned into a zombie, "I will provide you with more similar experimental subjects in the future. I hope you can offer us sufficient suggestions for improvement. If you can find a way to restore their consciousness or prevent their brains from suffering damage, that would be even better."
Ever since Hunk confirmed that the first anomalous phenomenon was the Plague Doctor, he had been considering how to manage him. Containment and control? Or seeking a way to mitigate the threat? The medical knowledge possessed by the Plague Doctor far exceeded human understanding; keeping him locked away was a waste. Therefore, Sui Bian hoped to have this eccentric doctor assist Umbrella in perfecting and improving the T-Virus. Especially since Birkin had completed the G-Virus, Sui Bian planned to inject D-Class personnel with the G-Virus in the future and send them to the Plague Doctor for study before they succumbed to the virus's erosion.
As for whether the T-Virus or G-Virus infected D-Class personnel would pose a threat to the Plague Doctor? Sui Bian had never even considered it. With the Plague Doctor's ability to kill with a single touch, it would be a miracle if he didn't make those D-Class personnel wish they were dead. Perhaps the Plague Doctor could even provide effective advice to Birkin and Rebecca.
Upon hearing Sui Bian's words, the Plague Doctor replied almost without hesitation, "Hahaha, sir, even if you hadn't asked, I would have done so anyway." He then began waving his hands to shoo away the security guards and researchers, saying, "I must begin the surgery! Your presence here is disturbing my train of thought!"
"Let's go. Give the doctor a quiet environment for his experiments." Seeing this, Sui Bian turned to leave the cell and issued the order for everyone to withdraw.
"Yes, sir."
Subsequently, the entire group retreated from the cell where the Plague Doctor was held.
Swish— As the sound of the metal cell door closing echoed, the room returned to its spacious, quiet state.
"Agh...! Argh...!"
It wasn't entirely silent, however. The zombified D-Class personnel left behind stumbled forward, raising its hands toward the Plague Doctor. It seemed it had mistaken the Plague Doctor for food.
"Ah... this patient seems a bit unruly. As punishment, let us begin the experiment with you."
The Plague Doctor seemed to sense that the zombie viewed him as food. As he spoke, he shook his head and raised his left hand, lightly tapping the zombie on its right shoulder.
"Ugh..." The zombie that made contact with the Plague Doctor let out a low, mournful growl before collapsing backward onto the floor.
"Urgh... urgh..." The zombie lying on the ground tried to struggle to its feet, only to find its body completely unresponsive.
Next, the Plague Doctor walked unhurriedly to the first gurney, took a pair of disposable medical gloves from the small bag placed on it, put them on, and then retrieved a medical bone saw that was longer than the bag itself. After taking out these items, he walked toward the incapacitated zombie and muttered to himself:
"Do not be afraid, do not fear. I shall perform a true healing upon you."
"Urgh..." The zombie continued to growl, but the tone of the growl was different from before, and its struggle grew increasingly intense, as if... it were afraid?
Could a zombie actually feel fear? The researchers in the Hive's third-floor control room felt their hair stand on end as they watched the zombie's display of fear through the cell's surveillance monitor. If an entity without thoughts, memories, consciousness, or emotions could feel fear, then just how capable was this anomalous phenomenon that Director Sui had named the Plague Doctor? However, the researchers only dwelled on this for a moment before continuing their recording duties.
Not long after.
The Hive, second floor.
Sui Bian's living quarters.
"Sir, according to the screening, the most suitable base to be converted into an Anomalous Phenomenon Containment Center is Rockfort Island, located in the Indian Ocean."
The White Queen's cold, calm voice echoed through the room. Sui Bian sat at his computer desk, his right hand on the mouse, his middle finger slowly scrolling the wheel as he read the file on Rockfort Island on the screen.
He asked, "Very well. What is the status of the island's person-in-charge, Alfred Ashford?"
"Due to the lockdown order you issued, sir, he is currently unaware of the changes in the company's equity. However, Alfred Ashford has been wary of the company since he took office. I suggest you follow the Red Queen's proposal and directly command troops to carry out a surprise raid," the White Queen said.
"Hmm, it is time to settle accounts with those who have long harbored ulterior motives. Red Queen, what was the reaction of the UBCS after they learned the truth?" Sui Bian asked the Red Queen.
"Sir, all UBCS loyal to the company have accepted the fact that anomalous entities, spaces, and phenomena exist in the world after viewing the files on the 'Leech Queen' and the 'Plague Doctor.' Furthermore, under the supervision of Charon Task Force Captain Enrico Marini and Deputy Captain Chris Redfield, they have all signed formal employment contracts and non-disclosure agreements," the Red Queen replied.
"Very well, send me the list of UBCS personnel loyal to the company."
"Yes, sir."
As soon as the conversation ended, the Red Queen uploaded the document containing the list of loyalist UBCS members.
Opening the document, Sui Bian scanned through it; out of the 54 UBCS members, only Platoon Leader Mikhail Victor had 'survived' the purge.
Of the other three platoon leaders, two were traitors, while the third had been deemed unfit due to poor conduct, had his memory wiped, and was reclassified as a 'wild' mercenary.
As expected, even the UBCS perfectly inherited Umbrella's 'fine' tradition of excelling at internal strife.
After finishing the document, Sui Bian fell into deep thought.
He weighed whether to select a few UBCS members to integrate into the Charon Task Force led by Marini and Chris, or to establish a larger MTF directly.
After a few seconds, Sui Bian made his decision. "Red Queen, I intend to establish a task force specifically for medium to large-scale combat and military operations, and I want all 54 of those UBCS members incorporated into it."
"What shall this task force be named, sir?"
"The Spear of Olympus."
"Yes, sir."
