Background

The original ten Primarchs were orphans raised by Sui Bian through the G-Gland project. Their Father-Son Connection and childhood at his side fostered deep loyalty and respect toward him; Sui Bian also deliberately taught them morality, judgment, and how to live as humans rather than merely as weapons 376 576.

Once their physical development reached its optimum, the ten underwent specialized procedures that made them full Primarchs. They were subsequently armed, organized into Legions, and deployed against threats beyond ordinary humanity's capacity 171.

Sui Bian later recovered Primarch souls from Universe 03 and oversaw the cultivation of a new generation. Nine infants were produced using recovered Primarch remains, Primarch- and Astartes-creation technology, and Custodian biological programming. Their former memories—including pain, regret, and past crimes—were erased so they could grow up under different circumstances 424.

Organization

The Primarchs serve as the highest-ranking officers of their Legions. A battalion commander answers directly to a Primarch, while Primarchs can command fleets, govern sectors, and mobilize vast military forces 266 373 376.

Umbrella eventually fields twenty Legions under twenty-one Primarchs, each Legion receiving a dedicated homeworld ship despite the mismatch in their numbers 533.

Primarchs possess human faces and features, but their immense physiques make them unmistakable. At their public unveiling, the original ten averaged over four meters tall even while wearing military uniforms 266.

• Their early standard combat attire was an upgraded, rugged black Mjolnir power armor over a form-fitting nanosuit 130.
• Their helmets feature a single red line across the eye area 156.
• Individual Primarch armor and weaponry are customized through Hephaestus's forging and the wielder's psionic power 217.
• Their God Bodies gradually acquire matching traits; Sanguinius's has white wings with a thousand-meter span, while Russ's has two pairs of prominent fangs 638.

Personality

The Primarchs are united by filial loyalty to Sui Bian and consistently acknowledge him as their father. They obey his orders, accept major responsibilities, and repeatedly fight for humanity under his command 130 274.

Their brotherhood is more complicated. The original ten grew up together and can trust one another in battle, but Primarchs do not automatically share the same absolute loyalty toward each other that they hold for Sui Bian. As they gained separate Legions, territories, and political interests, rivalry between generations and Legions became increasingly apparent 623.

Primarchs possess extreme strength, speed, resilience, and perception beyond ordinary humans and Astartes.

All original Primarchs receive psionic abilities through Sui Bian's sharing, with their growth permanently linked to his psionic plundering 140 327.

• Aptitude varies sharply: Magnus and Sanguinius possess the greatest natural talent, Corax specializes in stealth applications, and Russ is least interested in psionic study 212 327.
