Background / History

Wang Yan was appointed homeroom teacher of Freshman Class One after Zhou Yi was removed from the position. The academy publicly attributed Zhou Yi's departure to a hidden ailment, concealing that her Red Dragon martial soul had shattered after being suppressed by Lin Shuo's Seven-Colored Dragon King 12 13.

A scholar of martial soul theory, Wang Yan introduced his class to soul guidance devices rather than focusing solely on conventional martial-soul cultivation. He argued that soul masters could use such devices to support themselves in battle and cultivation 13. Huo Yu'er's interest in the subject caught his attention, and he personally took her to the Soul Guidance Department 13.

Wang Yan later recognized Huo Yu'er's Spirit Eye as a Body Martial Soul and hurried to report the discovery to Elder Xuan 14. When Huo Yu'er displayed the Water Dragon King during the grade advancement assessment, he and Du Weilun investigated her newly awakened second martial soul 35.
