|---|---|---|
| Six-hundred-thousand-year cultivation | 10 30 | Recently attained before meeting Meng Chen. Reaching this height had exhausted her efforts; she is later described as having endured the Six-Crossing Heavenly Punishment. |
| Wisdom Soul Ring / preserved soul form | 11 12 13 | Sacrifices her physical body and transfers her cultivation to Shui Bing'er while Meng Chen preserves her soul in the Chaos Bead. This is a change of existence, not a documented increase in cultivation. Her power is sealed and released progressively as her host grows stronger. |
Background / History
Snow Empress had lived for hundreds of thousands of years, witnessing generations of Spirit Beasts rise and disappear across the Extreme North. Despite recently reaching six-hundred-thousand-year cultivation, she had no confidence in surviving the eventual seven-hundred-thousand-year Heavenly Tribulation. Human transformation offered another route, but would cost her accumulated cultivation and leave her vulnerable to being hunted for a Soul Ring 10.
She first encountered Shui Bing'er after a blizzard separated the girl from her companions. Snow Empress attacked upon recognizing her as human, but Meng Chen intercepted the strike. Unable to assess the mysterious remnant soul's true nature, she gave Shui Bing'er a Ten Thousand Year Snow Lotus and ordered them to leave 9.
Meng Chen instead proposed a partnership: Snow Empress would become Shui Bing'er's Wisdom Soul Ring, retaining her complete soul and consciousness rather than disappearing like an ordinary sacrificed Spirit Beast. He promised that Shui Bing'er's eventual godhood would allow her to become a god alongside her. Initially furious and skeptical, Snow Empress ultimately accepted the gamble 10 11.
After the Snow Lotus helped Shui Bing'er reach level forty, Snow Empress transformed her body into ice-blue light rain containing her cultivation. The transfer reforged Shui Bing'er's body and soul, while Meng Chen guided Snow Empress's soul into the Chaos Bead. Shui Bing'er subsequently awakened at level forty-seven with an orange-gold fourth Soul Ring bearing six golden patterns 11 12 13.
Appearance
- Hair: Long, silver-white hair that gleams faintly in sunlight 9.
- Eyes: Ice-blue, compared to a frozen ocean 9.
- Build: Tall and slender, with graceful proportions 9.
- Clothing: A snow-white long dress 9 13.
- Bearing: Coldly beautiful, noble, and imposing, with the majesty of a ruler of ice and snow 9.
- Soul form: Retains her original appearance but becomes translucent and ethereal, resembling faintly glowing ice crystal 13.
- During possession: Shui Bing'er's physical appearance remains recognizable, but her eyes deepen to Snow Empress's ice-blue, and her voice and demeanor become cold, aloof, and regal 15 24.
Personality
Snow Empress initially treats humans with lofty indifference. Her immediate attack on Shui Bing'er and anger at the suggestion of becoming a Soul Ring reflect both hostility toward humans and fierce concern for her dignity. Nevertheless, she can weigh an unfamiliar proposal rationally, accepting Meng Chen's plan once she considers the possibility of preserving her identity and escaping her cultivation bottleneck 9 10 11.
She calls her sacrifice an investment, not charity, and expects Shui Bing'er to repay her by becoming a god. Her conduct nevertheless grows openly protective: she prevents a lethal Soul Bone fusion, spends her own soul power making it safe, and comforts Shui Bing'er during Meng Chen's prolonged sleep 13 15 29 30.
Although accustomed to solitude, she gradually becomes more cheerful while living alongside Meng Chen. She remains capable of irritation—particularly when he manipulates her into helping—but also develops a gentler manner toward Shui Bing'er. Her protectiveness does not imply mercy toward enemies; she kills Tang Hao and offers assistance with Shui Bing'er's plan to eliminate Liu Erlong 15 24 25 36.
Abilities & Skills
Snow Empress's Three Absolutes
| Technique | Effects and documented applications |
|---|---|
| Emperor's Cold Heaven—Snow Dance Shining Sun | An ice-and-snow domain that brings Extreme North conditions to the battlefield. While possessing Shui Bing'er, Snow Empress causes snowfall across Suotuo City and affects the surrounding thousand-meter area 24. |
| Emperor's Palm—Great Cold Without Snow | Freezes Tang Hao's body, meridians, Soul Power, and soul before blasting him into a crater 24. |
| Emperor Sword—Ice Extreme Unrivaled | Condenses a longsword from ultimate ice. Overpowers Tang Hao's nine-ring detonation, sends him into a mountain, and splits the mountain with its remaining force; the confrontation ends with Tang Hao cleaved in two 24 25. |
Possession and Borrowed Power
- Direct possession: Takes control of Shui Bing'er's body to perform delicate Soul Bone fusion, fight Tang Hao, and evacuate the girls from Meng Chen's battle with the Asura God 15 24 28.
- Controlled lending: Supplies only a portion of her power against Zhao Wuji, allowing Shui Bing'er to fight personally with an aura comparable to a Soul Saint 26.
- Resistance to external pressure: Her borrowed power offsets most of Zhao Wuji's gravity field 26.
- Host limitation: Full possession severely drains Shui Bing'er. After Tang Hao's death, the girl cannot remain airborne and must be caught by Meng Chen 25.
- Reduced output: Shui Bing'er's Emperor Sword, when powered by only a portion of Snow Empress's strength, lacks the original technique's full might 26.
Power Sealing and Soul Bone Fusion
- Seals her transferred cultivation so Shui Bing'er receives only what her body can withstand; without the seals, the initial transfer would kill her 13.
- Guides the fusion of her six-hundred-thousand-year torso Soul Bone and seals ninety-nine percent of its energy 15.
- Allows those seals to release progressively as Shui Bing'er's body strengthens 15.
- Expends substantial soul power during the process, leaving her Soul Body visibly more ethereal 15.
Defensive Protection
- Creates a light screen that shields Shui Bing'er from both extreme cold and extreme heat at the Ice-Fire Dual Eye 46.
- Her orange-gold Soul Ring protects Shui Bing'er from the lethal cold of the Extreme North's depths 48.
- Her influence strengthens Shui Bing'er's existing Ice Ring Armor, enabling it to resist Tang San's Eight Spider Lances 20.
Soul Spirit Existence
- Can manifest outside Shui Bing'er as an independent, visible soul figure 13 48.
- Can observe events outside the Chaos Bead and communicate within Shui Bing'er's Sea of Consciousness 28 29.
- Cannot provide ordinary physical contact in her manifested soul form: the Ice Empress cannot feel her attempted touch 48.
Equipment / Weapons / Items
- Ten Thousand Year Snow Lotus — Gives it to Shui Bing'er during their first encounter; Meng Chen later helps the girl absorb it to reach level forty 9 11.
- Six-Hundred-Thousand-Year Torso Soul Bone — Left behind by her sacrifice. Crystalline and ice-blue, it radiates intense cold and is later fused into Shui Bing'er under Snow Empress's supervision 12 15.
- Emperor Sword — A weapon formed through her ultimate-ice technique rather than a separately acquired sword 24.
Relationships
- Shui Bing'er — Host, cultivation partner, and recipient of her sacrifice. Their initially transactional arrangement develops into mentorship and genuine concern; Snow Empress protects her, guides her use of borrowed strength, and encourages her pursuit of godhood 13 15 26 29 51 69.
- Meng Chen — Architect of the Wisdom Soul Ring arrangement and custodian of the Chaos Bead. She respects his extraordinary strength but resents his schemes and teasing. By his awakening, she knows he comes from the Fierce-Flame Continent rather than their world 10 12 15 46 47.
- Ice Empress — Longstanding companion whose grief over Snow Empress's apparent death turns to overwhelming joy upon their reunion. Snow Empress persuades her to become Shui Bing'er's second Wisdom Soul Ring, offering both a path beyond tribulation and continued companionship 13 48.
- White Bear King — Adopted son who regards her as his mother and mourns her sacrifice as a maternal loss 13.
- Tang Hao — Enemy killed while Snow Empress possesses Shui Bing'er to defend the group 24 25.
Story Role / Major Arcs
Protecting Shui Bing'er and Her Companions
- Tang Hao confrontation: Takes over Shui Bing'er's body at Meng Chen's request and defeats the Clear Sky Douluo despite his Great Sumeru Hammer and nine-ring detonation 24 25.
- Shrek retaliation: Shifts from fighting directly to lending controlled power, letting Shui Bing'er gain experience against Zhao Wuji and kill him herself 26.
- Asura God battle: Recommends that Meng Chen use a physical host for greater strength, then possesses Shui Bing'er to remove the girls from the destructive battlefield 28.
Meng Chen's Slumber
After Meng Chen's Soul Body shatters, Snow Empress explains that he is asleep rather than dead. She warns Shui Bing'er that feeding him her Soul Power could affect her own cultivation, but continues offering reassurance throughout his recovery. Shui Bing'er's repeated questions over the following year become so familiar that Snow Empress begins answering “Not awake” before the question is finished 29 30.
Reunion with the Ice Empress
On returning to the Extreme North, Snow Empress appears before the Ice Empress can attack Shui Bing'er over her suspected role in the sacrifice. She explains the arrangement and encourages the Ice Empress to take the same gamble against her own uncertain Heavenly Tribulation. After the Ice Empress agrees, Snow Empress and Meng Chen safeguard the sacrifice process 48.
She subsequently remains attentive to Shui Bing'er's growth, urging her to maintain consciousness during the Ice Empress's painful Soul Bone fusion and later joining the Ice Empress in encouraging her ambitions for godhood 51 69.
