Background
Meng Chen was originally a common laborer on Blue Star. After being reborn in the Dou Qi Continent as a disciple of a small Central Plains clan, he gained the Chaos Bead, a treasure containing a small chaotic world and capable of traversing myriad realms. Baptism by chaos transformed his body and soul into a Chaos Body. 1
He began cultivating at six and reached Dou Sheng in only fifteen years. After attaining Dou Zun, he founded the Heavenly Court and was initially revered as the Heavenly Venerable. His followers later bestowed the title “Heavenly Emperor” upon him, and he became known as Heavenly Emperor Chen. 1
Three years after becoming a seven-star Dou Sheng, Meng Chen was ambushed by the Eight Ancient Clans. The seven-day battle devastated much of the Central Plains. Faced with the incomplete Ghost Blade of the Emperor-Slayer and an Emperor’s Soul scroll, he self-destructed his physical body; Hun Tiandi and Gu Yuan survived only by using subordinates as shields. Meng Chen’s remnant soul escaped into the Chaos Bead. 1
The Chaos Bead eventually entered Shui Bing’er’s body in the Douluo Continent. His awakening instinctively drained her Soul Power, reducing her from level 35 to zero. Unable to return it immediately, he compensated her with cultivation methods, medicinal resources, and personal instruction. 1 2
Appearance
Meng Chen usually manifests as an ethereal purple-robed Soul Body, though he regains a tangible physical form at the end of the story. 2 74
- Tall and slender, with black hair described as falling like a waterfall. 2
- Exceptionally handsome, with a cold yet composed bearing. 2 29
- Bears a Chaos Mark on his forehead. 2
- Wears purple robes that move without wind. 2
- Manifests a holy ring inscribed with Chaos Laws behind him. 2
- Is surrounded by Chaos Qi and phantom Chaos Shoulder Armor. 2
- Can conceal both his form and aura through a secret technique, making his Soul Body indistinguishable even to Titled Douluo. 73
Personality
Meng Chen is composed, confident, and accustomed to speaking from a position of overwhelming experience. Even as a weakened remnant soul, he regards the Douluo Continent’s Soul Master system as primitive compared with the cultivation systems he knows. 2
He is deeply protective of Shui Bing’er. He teaches her techniques, supplies pills, shields her from powerful enemies, and recklessly manifests to defend her when Spirit Hall threatens her. 2 7 44 50
His methods can be pragmatic and manipulative. He persuades the Snow Emperor to assist with the dangerous fusion of her torso bone by exploiting her concern for Shui Bing’er, and he advises Shui Bing’er to eliminate enemies completely rather than leave future threats. 15 27
Despite his lofty demeanor, Meng Chen has a teasing and blunt sense of humor. His casual remarks frequently undermine the mysterious impression he makes on the Snow Emperor. 7 47
