Background / History
A-Train was a celebrity speedster and member of The Seven, but his public image concealed severe Compound V abuse. During a Vought-sponsored Brooklyn community run, he became intoxicated and sprinted toward Hughie Campbell and Robin. Guardian intercepted him before he could kill them; A-Train then attempted to attack Guardian and was defeated by a single supersonic slap broadcast across the country. 5 6 7
The viral incident exposed his recklessness and destroyed his standing within The Seven. Homelander removed him from the team, citing his drug use and near-fatal misconduct. Afterward, A-Train spiraled into drug use with Popclaw, suffered hallucinations, and developed serious heart problems. 15 16 21 46
Guardian later offered him a path back, provided he quit drugs and performed assigned work. Desperate to regain his status, A-Train injected Compound Five into targeted terrorist organizations for Homelander and Guardian's political scheme. Guardian subsequently declared him a full Seven member and ordered him to secretly rescue people throughout Manhattan without revealing his identity. 43 51
His anonymous rescues began a genuine change in outlook. Saving a child from an oncoming truck—and receiving gratitude without cameras or publicity—made him recognize the difference between celebrity heroism and helping people. He also investigated the Church of the Collective, uncovered Alastair Adana's trafficking evidence, and publicly accepted responsibility for his past while crediting Guardian for giving him another chance. 70 76
A-Train later apologized directly to Hughie for nearly killing him and Robin. When his weakened heart finally failed, Guardian had Blue Hawk killed, transplanted Blue Hawk's heart into A-Train, and healed his accumulated injuries. The experience deepened A-Train's loyalty to Guardian. 85 98 99
Appearance
A-Train is typically seen in a blue spandex superhero suit during public appearances and races. At high speed, he is described as a streak or bolt of blue lightning. 6 232
- Wears The Seven's speedster costume during Vought events. 6
- His eyes become bloodshot while under the influence of Compound V. 6
- Guardian's slap leaves him with a swollen face, missing teeth, and visible bleeding. 7
- After gaining the Speed Force, his body vibrates involuntarily when moving at his new speed. 232
Personality
Initially, A-Train is arrogant, impulsive, and indifferent to the danger he poses to ordinary people. While intoxicated, he dismisses the possibility of having killed Hughie and Robin because of his position in The Seven. His pride collapses after Guardian easily defeats him, leaving him fearful of stronger superhumans and desperate to preserve his career. 6 7 15
After his dismissal, he is easily manipulated by Guardian's promise of reinstatement. He accepts dangerous and morally compromised work in exchange for a place in The Seven, but his later actions show that his reform is not solely performative. His private rescues, remorse toward Hughie, and distress over the trafficking evidence indicate a developing conscience. 46 51 70 85
A-Train increasingly views Guardian as his moral model and true leader, contrasting him with the flawed celebrity heroes around him. However, he remains afraid of death and sometimes overstates his resolve to prove his loyalty. 86 231
