Overview

Spirit Masters are individuals whose awakened martial souls possess soul power, allowing them to cultivate and acquire spirit rings. Children whose martial souls awaken without soul power cannot become Spirit Masters. Spirit Hall branches conduct awakenings, register and certify Spirit Masters by rank, and distribute subsidies. 12

Martial souls are generally categorized as beast spirits or tool spirits, with body spirits forming a rare third category. A body spirit manifests as part of its user’s body; Huo Yuhao’s eyes are identified as an exceptionally rare mental-type body spirit. 15

Beast Spirits

Beast spirits manifest in animal forms and may be used for martial soul avatar combat. Huo Yuhao’s Ancestral Dragon is classified as a beast spirit. 15

Tool Spirits

Tool spirits manifest as objects and can be used in three-dimensional form. Examples recorded during the village awakening include a sickle and a hoe. 12 15

Body Spirits

Body spirits manifest as physical body parts and may vary widely in strength. Spirit Hall records describe dozens of such cases over roughly ten thousand years. 15

• Eye body spirits can possess mental attributes. 15
• Their potential may not be immediately apparent; a historical eye-spirit user discovered the true purpose of his martial soul only after reaching Spirit King level and absorbing an animal spirit ring. 15

Cultivation and Spirit Rings

Spirit Masters use spirit ring energy to advance their cultivation. Traditionally, rings are acquired from Soul Beasts, but the Symbiosis Pavilion establishes alternatives that do not require killing them. 219

Spirit rings grant soul skills, which may serve offensive, supportive, control, or other purposes.

• Spirit Hall provides academies and resources that are especially significant for commoners seeking cultivation opportunities. 10
