Background / History

Yu Xiaogang was a Shrek Academy teacher and a direct descendant of the Blue Lightning Tyrant Dragon Clan. He devoted decades to martial soul theory and regarded his “Ten Core Competencies of Spirits” as proof that the Douluo Continent's spirit-and-ring system was an absolute law. When the Sky Curtain announced the Renegade Immortal World, he dismissed it as an illusion and reassured his students that no power system could surpass spirit masters. 1

As the broadcasts exposed cultivation techniques, Yu Xiaogang repeatedly tried to interpret them through Douluo standards. He claimed a fourth-level Qi Condensation cultivator was equivalent to a Soul Ancestor or Soul King, identified a flying sword as an external spirit bone, and argued that a Foundation Establishment elder surviving magma relied on a defensive treasure. Each judgment was disproven by the events on the Sky Screen, including Yan's instant death to the elder's true fire. 4 8 9 10

His confidence collapsed further after a Nascent Soul elder subdued the Dark Demon Evil God Tiger with a word and Wang Lin demonstrated time manipulation against Yue Guan. Yu Xiaogang ultimately admitted to Tang San that Douluo spirit masters could not defeat the people of the Renegade Immortal World. 15 16

The Sky Curtain selected Yu Xiaogang as a fifth-batch explorer and transported him to a Troll Race livestock enclosure. There, a Black Wind Pig treated Luo Sanpao with contempt, while a Troll servant classified Yu Xiaogang as a slave. After Luo Sanpao accidentally relieved the pig's bloating, Yu Xiaogang was spared and made its permanent caretaker, chained to a post and ordered to feed, clean, massage, and remove parasites from the Black Wind Pigs. 22 23

While cleaning the pen, he found a broken jade slip containing a basic cultivation method. The discovery restored his ambition: unlike the martial soul system, the technique offered a route to cultivation through spiritual energy rather than martial soul awakening or spirit rings. He endured repeated pain while practicing the method in secret and eventually condensed a wisp of spiritual energy. 26 29 40

Before he could use that energy to break his collar, Chi Hu, the Troll Race's young chieftain, arrived at the pen and casually destroyed his cultivation progress. 40 41

Yu Xiaogang is initially depicted as a middle-aged man with a rigid expression, furrowed brows, a flat-top haircut, and a habitual hands-behind-back posture. 1

His composure is fragile when he personally faces the Renegade Immortal World. Upon being selected, he abandons his usual dignity and begs Tang San and Flender to save him. The jade slip rekindles both his determination and his vanity. After absorbing spiritual energy, he imagines returning as the Douluo Continent's first immortal cultivator and dismissing Titled Douluo and Spirit Hall as beneath him; after condensing a wisp of energy, he begins planning revenge against his Troll captors. 29 40
