Yet Ling's roar had no effect whatsoever, not even slightly influencing the two cowards who had resolved to hunker down in a dangerous situation until the very end.
Watching those two spineless types—one sprinting toward the rooftop with swift strides, the other shamelessly sweeping up piles of potato chips, cola, and all kinds of snacks—
She was so furious her Power Bank trembled!
A long silence. Ling's loli voice, gritting her teeth, rang out viciously!
"I was planning to let you experience life and death later, but I've changed my mind now!!"
"You coward, this time I'm definitely going to make you die once and see!"
Then Ling floated up directly, not chasing after the two's direction, but instead flying off toward another path.
On the mansion's rooftop, two sneaky figures appeared at the terrace, lugging large bags of snacks.
Meng Lang locked the only small door behind him, let out a relieved sigh, and gave Fang Ran a thumbs-up as he said:
"Little bro, we're safe now!"
Then he saw Fang Ran already sitting by the railing, flipping through his favorite bag of potato chips.
"Hey, damn it, leave some for me!"
Meng Lang hurriedly joined in, and the two of them sat on the steps near the rooftop's edge, gazing at the dazzling city lights at night.
"Old Bro, when will those guys down there be done?"
Fang Ran asked while munching on a Ham Sausage.
"Hey, relax. This scene in Night Battle is basically a rare reward scenario—definitely won't last long. I figure the fight'll be over in less than an hour."
Meng Lang pulled out another yogurt and chugged it down.
"Oh, I see."
Fang Ran watched the Black Shadows occasionally popping up at the base of the building, the street not far off where Thunderlight ran wild, and farther still, who knew how many people were locked in combat.
Then, just as the two were lying low and spectating, it seemed Night Battle didn't want them to have it too easy.
The electric light on a nearby street began to move, as if chasing something, and then actually pursued all the way to the plaza right below their building!
"Damn! Old Bro, have we been spotted?"
"No! Stay calm, little bro. Look—the owner of that electric light is clearly chasing someone else."
Meng Lang said with a serious face, then, as if trying to look professional, analyzed:
"See, someone who can unleash this kind of lightning ability definitely isn't low-ranked, and the ability must be a branch of the Tech Side. This electricity... damn!!!"
Before he could finish his messy analysis, the figure casually swinging arcs of lightning emerged from amidst the various metals it had attracted and manipulated with its power.
Once he got a clear look at that person's face, Meng Lang nearly spat out his yogurt, blurting out a curse!
"Damn, Old Bro, you almost sprayed me! What's wrong!?" Fang Ran was startled too, but before he could stick his head out to look, Meng Lang yanked him back and explained:
"Don't pop your head out, little bro. That person down there is an official genius! B-Rank!"
"Ohhh!!"
Fang Ran nodded with an air of feigned understanding, putting on a look like 'I grasp the key points here,' but if he'd been at the mansion's wreckage earlier, he'd know—
This was exactly one of the people from the last scenario!
"Little bro, don't think she's not impressive. Compared to us E-Rank trash, she could wipe us out with a single lightning bolt. But that's not the most important thing!"
"Then what is!?"
Fang Ran looked shocked—that wasn't important?
"The most important thing—"
Meng Lang's face twisted into a complex expression mixed with envy, jealousy, and resentment as he said:
"Haven't you noticed her ability is electricity? Electricity! Think about it—where doesn't electricity get used these days? Even human nerve signals involve positive and negative electrical signals!"
"With potential that damn huge and damn awesome, do you have any idea how bright her future is?"
"Ahem, Old Bro—"
Fang Ran, seeing his panicked expression, couldn't help but call him out:
"You didn't piss her off somewhere, did you?"
"Uh—"
As if caught off guard, Meng Lang froze stiff, then rubbed his hands together and laughed:
"This... how could that be?"
"Hey!!!! Miss warrior down there, Meng Lang is—mmph!"
The moment Meng Lang denied it, Fang Ran opened his mouth to shout.
Meng Lang, terrified, clamped his hand over Fang Ran's mouth, staring at the 'I'm curious, and if you don't tell me, I'll shout' expression on his face, and had no choice but to give in.
Sigh, who knew this seemingly honest little bro would have such a gut-punching personality.
"Honestly, I just... slightly... slightly got in the way of her love life."
Meng Lang explained awkwardly, but then immediately put on a righteous expression:
"Although I know what I'm doing is really shady, as a member of the FFF Group, I have no choice but to do this!"
Fang Ran: "..."
Old Bro, with a reason that shitty and virtue-draining, I really feel like handing you over right now.
"Hey! Look, down there, it looks like the fight's over. That guy clearly can't beat her."
Meng Lang pointed at the battle below, as if trying to change the subject to ease the awkwardness.
On the street plaza at the base of the building, lightning spread like twisting, ferocious dragons, carving up the road surface as it went. The person fighting her seemed no pushover either—
golden light flashed from his fists, clearly packing a punch, but he simply couldn't get close.
"Thunderlight!"
The girl flicked her right hand, sending a bolt of lightning lashing out like a whip toward the man. He was startled, but not panicked, and pushed off with his legs to leap backward—
Then he suddenly realized, to his shock, that he couldn't move!
"Magnetic Field!?"
The man guessed in surprise. Then an electric ring appeared beneath his feet, and lightning surged violently into the sky!
Crackle!
A thin bolt of lightning flashed past, streaking right in front of Fang Ran and Meng Lang on the rooftop!
Fang Ran and Meng Lang turned their stiff necks to look at each other. They could both still smell the scorched odor of the billboard at the edge of the rooftop, burnt by the high-temperature electricity.
After eliminating that guy, the girl seemed bored. She didn't immediately go hunting the E-Rank grunts wandering nearby.
Fang Ran and Meng Lang stayed holed up on the rooftop, not even daring to eat their snacks anymore, waiting quietly for the girl below to leave.
'Old Bro, what do we do? Why isn't she leaving yet?'
Fang Ran shot a meaningful glance at Meng Lang.
'Just wait a bit longer. She'll definitely leave!'
Meng Lang shot a glance back.
'Damn it, Old Bro, do we really have to communicate with our eyes? We look like idiots.'
Fang Ran looked at Meng Lang in confusion.
'Little bro, stay calm. B-Rank ability users are very sensitive and alert. We absolutely cannot be discovered.'
Meng Lang's eyes gleamed with determination as he responded to Fang Ran.
Of course, all of the above "conversation" was just the two of them imagining it. In reality, these two cowards had been scared stiff by that last move and were just staring at each other with wide eyes, not moving a muscle.
But as if heaven had opened its eyes, unwilling to let these two dogs hide until the very end—or maybe because fate is fickle and things never go as planned—just as they stood frozen, a sudden change occurred on the street plaza below!
Thick Black Mist erupted from the ground out of nowhere, growing denser and denser!
On the ground, Qing Ning, who had been casually sitting on a platform resting, let out a soft "Huh?"
Then, in the ears of all participants, including Fang Ran and Meng Lang, the system's familiar voice suddenly rang out!
"Ding! The final target, E-49, has been deployed!"
