Background
Fang Ran began as an ordinary medical student with a long-standing desire to become a hero, despite believing himself incapable of saving anyone. His childhood admiration for heroes was shaped by Fang DaBo’s intervention in a robbery, while his later experiences with bullying convinced him that he lacked the strength to help others. 14 214
He awakened as a Night Battle Participant after receiving an ability and a Magic Book containing Clow Cards. Initially panicked by the supernatural circumstances, he improvised by using his metal belt as a Magic Wand to activate the Sword Card while fleeing a zombie. 2 3
His belt was later remade into the Silver Severing Dragon Tooth after he allocated all available exclusive-weapon points to Appearance Value, completing the rare Ability Attempt-9 achievement. The weapon became central to his magic, combat style, and eventual public image. 12 13
Fang Ran joined the Huaxia Official and underwent harsh Night Bureau training under Su Qun, Hua Ling, Resurrection, and Ye Sheng. Although physically weak at first, he developed combat fundamentals, endurance, mobility, and confidence alongside his rapidly increasing Magic Energy. 271 276 304 305
His rescue of the Demoness required him to exchange his heart for the ability to use The Create, leaving him dependent on his unusual “Infinite” Magic Energy and vulnerable to collapse when his power is exhausted. 93
Appearance
Fang Ran is a black-haired, dark-eyed young man whose appearance was initially described as ordinary. Proper grooming and formal clothing reveal a notably more handsome, composed image than he usually presents. 220 234 228
- Usually dresses casually and tends to appear unkempt or slacker-like in daily life. 148 401
- Can present a refined, formal image in fitted suits, dress shirts, leather shoes, and luxury accessories. 228 241
- His exclusive Magic Wand can be worn at his waist as a silver dragon-shaped belt. 228
- Uses The Illusion to assume the silver-haired female appearance associated with Night Crow and Cube. 176 341
- Has been forced into physical womenswear on several occasions to protect his Night Crow identity. 342 348
Personality
Fang Ran is imaginative, dramatic, and prone to panic, especially around attractive women, authority figures, firearms, and situations where his identity may be exposed. He frequently hides embarrassment behind exaggerated jokes, anime references, evasive behavior, or outright lies. 77 97 271 606
Despite calling himself cowardly and ordinary, he repeatedly acts when others are in danger. He protects strangers, intervenes in crimes, risks himself for allies, and refuses to abandon people even when he believes he cannot win. 14 56 636 1130
His confidence changes sharply when he has a clear goal or someone to protect. In combat, he can become focused, analytical, and unrestrained, combining cards, artifacts, terrain, and deception rather than relying on straightforward strength. 79 633 948 1281
Abilities & Skills
Clow Card Magic
Fang Ran’s primary ability is a Magic Book containing Clow Cards. He must use a Magic Wand—initially any metal object, later the Silver Severing Dragon Tooth—to activate them. 3 13
- The Sword — manifests swordsmanship and weapon capability; Fang Ran uses it with the Dragon Tooth for close combat. 3 333
- The Float — makes people or objects float and enables high-speed aerial movement. 23 153
- The Shadow — manipulates shadows, including restraining targets or creating remote-controlled shadow constructs. 43 79
- The Illusion — creates disguises, decoys, invisibility effects, and alternate appearances. 79 303 341
- The Create — materializes items written into its book; cost rises with complexity and imagined creations can produce uncertain results. 79 93
- The Shield — forms a transparent defensive barrier, though it can be broken by sufficiently powerful attacks. 79 193
- Other documented cards include Fight, Power, Thunder, Freeze, Sand, Fire, Dash, Flight, Strike, Sleep, Draw, Erase, Change, Mirror, Dual, Sound, and Flower. 333 334 423 693 1113 1520
Infinite Magic Energy
After sacrificing his heart in a transaction with the Demoness, Fang Ran gained access to “Infinite” Magic Energy: the ability to exploit the Silver Severing Dragon Tooth’s doubling effect and external energy sources beyond normal limits. 79 93
- Can multiply his available Magic Energy by activating and cancelling the Dragon Tooth’s doubled Magic Value state at the right timing. 79
- Can overdraw himself for powerful card combinations and large-scale manifestations. 185 459
- Can borrow external Magic Energy to prematurely unleash Infinite, but doing so is tied to the loss of his heart and its consequences. 636
- Fully exhausting his Magic Energy can cause him to black out; failure while relying on The Create may be fatal. 93
Silver Severing Dragon Tooth
Fang Ran’s exclusive Magic Wand is an elegant silver dragon-shaped weapon that can become a segmented sword or take other forms, including a cane. 13 1130
- Doubles one of Fang Ran’s attribute values; he most often doubles Magic Value. 13 35 79
- Initially displayed Attack 20, Magic 19, Defense 15, Speed 17, and capped Appearance Value. 13
- Serves as the activation focus for his Clow Cards; without it, he is severely limited in casting. 3 873
- Its restrained attribute cap is eventually unlocked during his battle with Volta. 633
Night Artifacts
Fang Ran possesses several rare Night Artifacts that expand his combat options and perception.
- Night’s Pilgrimage — an A-rank artifact associated with Hugin and Munin; provides thought-reading or predictive insight, shadow-based power, and powerful released forms. 459 791 792
- Gluttony — a devouring artifact capable of consuming targets, attacks, and obstacles; Fang Ran treats its use cautiously because of its lethal implications. 422 459 896
- Droupnir — Odin’s Ring of Infinite Wealth; increases Fang Ran’s Magic Energy limit by one point every nine days. 791 792
- Gungnir — gained through Night Artifact fusion; manifests as a power of oath rather than a physical spear. 791 792
- Moon God Hunt — an A-rank bow-like artifact capable of concentrating enormous Magic Energy into decisive attacks, especially when supplied with an Aether Spirit. 834 944 948
Physical Combat & Training
Fang Ran began with poor physical performance but gained substantial endurance, agility, and hand-to-hand combat ability through Night Bureau training. 276 280 283
- Learned running, obstacle traversal, force dissipation, evasive maneuvers, and close-quarters techniques under Su Qun. 280 283 320
- Can overpower ordinary armed opponents even when his abilities are blocked. 320 321
- Uses card-enhanced swordsmanship and physical reinforcement to confront stronger opponents. 333 459
- Improved his precision and energy efficiency through repeated ability-control training. 1094 1132
Mechanical Dragon
Fang Ran’s Mechanical Dragon, later identified as his Lifebound Summoned Beast, emerged through the fusion of his power, a Mechanical Soul, Klim’s model, and the support of others. 1013 1055
- Can manifest as a giant mechanical dragon under Fang Ran’s Ultimate Power. 1013
- Is being reforged into a much larger, dragon-shaped Ultimate Power called Destiny. 1167 1170 1174
