Fang Ran let out a deep sigh, lamenting that his freshman year had truly gone to the dogs. Shaking his head with feeling, he prepared to head back.
"Bro, you're leaving already? Chances to see Senior Xia are rare!"
Fang Ran rolled his eyes when he heard that and replied,
"What's the point of looking? What does a gorgeous beauty like that have to do with a loser like me?"
After saying that, he turned to leave. This was one of the few things about ordinary Fang Ran that left his roommates clicking their tongues in amazement: he was not swayed by beauty.
But Fang Ran genuinely thought that way. No matter how pretty someone else was, what did it have to do with you? Better not to look. All he could think about now was hurrying back for a nap, then figuring out what good food to eat tonight. (Forever single.)
Oh, right. He still needed to save up for a phone.
Damn!
The thought made Fang Ran's heart ache! He had clearly only used that phone for three years (.), and it had died such an early death.
"Wait, I found something strange in that building."
Just as Fang Ran was about to head back, Ling suddenly spoke. Her voice was calm, as though she were completely serious.
"Strange!? What's strange!? Don't tell me there's another one of those monsters!"
Fang Ran jumped in fright like a startled bird, staring nervously at the club building.
"I'm not entirely sure either. You should know if you go inside and take a look."
"Not going!"
Fang Ran answered with absolute decisiveness.
Ling immediately felt a tightness in her chest!
"You bastard!!! You only promised yesterday that you'd listen to me!" Ling's voice instantly roared through Fang Ran's mind.
"Um... did I say that?" Fang Ran mumbled, doing his best to control his facial muscles and put on an innocent expression.
"What do you think!!!!!!!"
A powerful voice thundered through Fang Ran's mind. He immediately made a miserable face and muttered, "Fine, I'll go, okay?"
"Hmph!!!"
Then Fang Ran sneakily slipped back into the crowd watching Xia Yao, like a thief returning to the scene.
The guy from before stared at him speechlessly.
"Bro, didn't you say there was nothing worth seeing?"
"Uh, I thought about it, and chances to see a beauty like this really are rare. I'd better seize the opportunity!"
Fang Ran declared with a solemn, righteous expression. Then, under the contemptuous gaze of the junior student, he forcibly blended into the group touring the building.
A huge crowd followed behind the Latin Dance club members as they entered the club building together with groups from other clubs.
"Xia Jie, there are so many people this year."
"Hehe, they're probably here for the captain's dance partner position again."
Two girls walking beside Xia Yao giggled softly. Xia Yao looked at them helplessly, sighed, then turned around with a smile.
"The Dance Studio is on the first floor. We'll be performing a dance for you on the spot. If any of you freshmen are interested, remember to submit an application to join afterward."
There was teasing in her large eyes as she joked with the freshmen behind her, failing to notice that several newly enrolled boys had already turned red.
Fang Ran, a "fake" freshman, had also quietly slipped into the back of the group. He listened as Xia Yao and a girl from another club introduced the various aspects of their clubs.
"Hey! Sis, where's that strange place you mentioned!?" Fang Ran asked nervously. He was worried both that someone would recognize him as a fake freshman and that some monster might suddenly jump out from nowhere and bite his ass.
"Hmm, it seems to be upstairs. Mm-hmm... I feel like it's directly above that Dance Studio." Ling spoke in a grave, serious tone, as if it were truly the case.
"No, there are too many people. Let's go up those stairs over there instead!"
Fang Ran spoke in a low voice, then took advantage of everyone's attention being fixed on the beautiful club captain and dashed up the side staircase.
"Are you sure there's something on this floor?" Fang Ran asked cautiously. He had already subconsciously decided that another black monster like before had infiltrated the place.
Ling silently chose not to correct him and answered sternly, "That's right. Be careful."
Fang Ran slowly walked down the corridor one step at a time, gradually approaching the row of rooms above the Dance Studio amid the comings and goings of people from various clubs.
"We just have to turn in here. Are we really going to look?" Fang Ran asked uneasily once more.
"You know how dangerous that thing is, right? This is your school." Ling said it lightly, and for some reason, Fang Ran gritted his teeth and continued forward.
Then Wei Wenwen suddenly came around the corner in front of him.
"Mm!"
"Uh."
Neither of them had expected to run into the other, and they both froze for a moment. Then Wei Wenwen silently nodded at Fang Ran and continued on her way. Fang Ran smiled as well. Neither of them said anything.
After Wei Wenwen left, Fang Ran returned to his nervous state, staring tensely ahead as though nothing had happened.
Keep pretending. Go on, keep pretending.
In a moment, let me see what your true nature is really like.
Inside the hood, Ling used telekinesis to observe the outside world, her eyes glinting with an inscrutable smile. In the data space, she gently pinched her fingers together and flicked her wrist.
Snap!
A crisp finger snap rang out.
Bang!
Then the glass beside Fang Ran instantly exploded inward!!
"Holy shit!!!"
Fang Ran went pale with fright and cursed instinctively!
"Oh no!! That thing seems to be able to turn invisible! Find somewhere to hide, quickly!!" Ling's voice rang anxiously through Fang Ran's mind!
Bang bang bang!!!
Crash!!
As she spoke, another pane of glass exploded!
Not only that, but at the same time, the lights on the ceiling burst one after another! Quite a few shards even fell down Fang Ran's collar!!
Pain shot through his neck, and Fang Ran instinctively obeyed Ling's shout and ran forward!
"There's no time! Get inside, quickly!!" Ling's voice echoed through Fang Ran's mind with extreme urgency. At the same time, the continuous sounds of shattering glass came from behind him!
Without even thinking, Fang Ran opened the nearest door and darted inside!
"Quick! Hide!! Keep your breathing down! Don't let it notice you!!"
Ling had already flown out from Fang Ran's hood! She used telekinesis to block the falling shards of broken light tubes for him!
Then she forcibly shoved Fang Ran into the innermost locker! Fang Ran felt Ling ram hard into his back, sending him crashing into a pile of clothes, but Ling herself flew away!
"What are you doing!?"
"Don't worry about it! I'll figure out a way to deal with it!"
Ling spoke urgently. Seeing Fang Ran's panicked, bewildered expression, she struck the locker door from another angle. The door shut, hiding Fang Ran inside.
Then, although the lights and glass nearby were still exploding around her, Ling suddenly fell silent.
She hovered outside the door, where Fang Ran could not see her.
In the data space, Ling was still floating with her legs crossed, the corners of her lips curling into a devilish arc.
She silently drifted away. Several words were printed on the white label of the closed locker door.
