Spiritual Energy

Spirit Stones contain pure spiritual energy that cultivators can absorb directly. After forming divine sense, Zhu Yu could perceive the energy within a stone and felt he could draw it out with a thought. 2 16

Formation and Appearance

Spirit Stones have two known origins:

1. Naturally formed stones created by heaven and earth.
2. Transformed ordinary objects whose material changes after prolonged exposure to a cultivator's aura, allowing them to draw in ambient spiritual energy. 7

The two kinds differ in appearance but not essence. 7

• An earth-attribute low-grade Spirit Stone resembled a cool, dark-yellow pebble with mist swirling inside. 7
• Other documented stones resembled warm white jade, ordinary pebbles, or petrified wood. 16 40

• Cultivation resource — cultivators may absorb the spiritual energy contained within a stone. 2 16
• Formation fuel — used to establish and operate formations. 2
• Alchemy and artifact refining — a standard resource for refining pills and magical artifacts. 2
• Spirit-plant cultivation — Wood Spirit Flower soil requires ground earth- and wood-attribute Spirit Stones, while One-Leaf Lotus cultivation uses a water-attribute Spirit Stone. 38 176
• Food for minor spirit creatures — Dharma Repository book-slaves such as Die Ersan and Long Jiu eat Spirit Stones and describe them as fragrant and warming. 145
• Contribution Point conversion — Zhu Yu exchanged 1,000 Spirit Stones for 1,000 Contribution Points, and later converted 6,300 stones into 6,300 points. 58 80

Economy

Spirit Stones are one of the universal currencies of the cultivation world, while Contribution Points are the Heavenly Dao Sect's internal currency for purchasing most sect resources. 2

Spirit-Ground Stipends

Role in the Heavenly Dao Sect

The Heavenly Dao Sect's economic structure treats Spirit Stones as both payment and an extraction of value from its cultivators. Zhu Yu realizes that the sect raises “consumables” into cultivators, imprisons them, and benefits from the Spirit Stones and spiritual items they produce until death. 7

Higher cultivation is explicitly associated with greater production of Spirit Stones and spiritual items, contributing to inflated prices for cultivation materials within the sect. 53
