Background and History

Sasori defected from the Sand Village after killing the Third Kazekage and turning his body into a human puppet. Konan later recruited him into Akatsuki after defeating him in a skirmish 17 23. Sasori regarded the Third Kazekage Human Puppet as his finest work 20.

During the Bloody Mist Rebellion, Sasori and Kakuzu pursued the fleeing Kaguya and Yuki clan heads. Sasori sought intact bodies for his collection, but his attempt to capture the Kaguya Clan Head ended when Hyuga Lan seized the Third Kazekage puppet and severed Sasori’s chakra threads. Sasori retreated with Obito and, under threat from Lan, surrendered an antidote for his poisoned captives 13 15 17 18.

Seeking a replacement with Magnet Release, Sasori targeted the Fourth Kazekage, Rasa. He confronted Lan again when Rasa was nearly captured, but his grandmother Chiyo’s presence complicated the standoff: revealing what Lan’s masked puppet really was would expose Sasori’s murder of the Third Kazekage. Lan withdrew without giving up the puppet and proposed exchanging it for Rasa 23 26 27 28.

Sasori subsequently fought Lan’s Kaguya Clan Head clone and the opponent known as Garuda. In the latter battle, Garuda destroyed one of Sasori’s puppet bodies, but Sasori survived by transferring his core to another. A later defeat cost him the Yuki Clan Head Human Puppet and most of his hundred-puppet force; Konan rescued him and his wounded teammates 63 93 102 119.

Sasori is described as a young-looking man with short red hair and a strikingly handsome face 23.

Personality

Sasori treats human puppets as lasting works of art and prizes rare bloodline abilities as material for them. Discovering Lan’s apparently wireless-controlled puppets shook his confidence in his own mastery; he resolved to eliminate their creator rather than accept a superior puppeteer 12 15. He also resents Lan for taking the Third Kazekage puppet and remains intent on recovering his strength 17 27.

Human Puppetry

Sasori makes puppets from human bodies, retaining valuable bloodline abilities in his creations 19 63.

• Third Kazekage Human Puppet: His former masterpiece used Magnet Release to control Iron Sand, fly, and perform attacks including Iron Sand Drizzle and Iron Sand World Method. Lan took it from him 16 17 18.
• Yuki Clan Head Human Puppet: Uses Ice Release, including attacks that freeze water and hinder opponents. Sasori later sacrificed it to escape 63 92 102.
• Kaguya Clan Head Clone Human Puppet: Uses Shikotsumyaku to form defenses, but its bone shield and puppet body were overwhelmed by Garuda’s stronger Shikotsumyaku 90 93.

Puppet Control and Arsenal

Sasori controls multiple puppets through chakra threads and equips them with concealed weapons and mechanical armaments 17.
