Background / History

Karin is an Uzumaki survivor who spent her childhood alone around the ruins of the Land of Whirlpools. When Yun Xi found her, Grass shinobi were pursuing her as a target; her wariness toward his offers of food and protection reflected her experience surviving in dangerous conditions. Even before trusting him, she attempted to protect him from the Grass shinobi herself. 12 13 14

After Yun Xi defeated her pursuers, Karin offered him her arm so that he could restore his chakra through her healing ability. She subsequently accepted his protection, chose to leave the Land of Whirlpools, and became Yun Xi's first loyal subordinate. She does not wish to return to the place where she grew up alone. 14 15 19

During their journey, Karin acted as Yun Xi's healer and sensory support against Orochimaru, Kimimaro, and Kabuto. She later demonstrated her inherited sealing talent in the Land of Waves, helped expose Zabuza through his Hidden Mist Technique, and killed Gato when he attempted to attack Yun Xi. 16 17 21 22 24

Yun Xi initially kept Karin outside Konoha to avoid drawing attention to her Uzumaki heritage. The Third Hokage agreed to grant her a Hidden Leaf identity once her lineage was confirmed, allowing her to live with Yun Xi and gain the home she had wanted. 27 30

During the Uchiha Clan incident, Karin located Obito by scanning Konoha for unusually large chakra reserves. Later, witnessing Sasuke's isolation after the massacre reminded her of her own trauma, but Yun Xi and Pikachu helped her move beyond it. 32 45
