Background

Itachi trained in the forest under the guidance of the mysterious Obito, whom Ryosuke identifies as his mentor. By this time, Obito had already awakened the Three-Tomoe Sharingan, while Itachi displayed exceptional ability with thrown weapons despite being only nine years old. 11

He secretly infiltrated the Uchiha Shrine by using a crow to distract the guards and transforming into Uchiha Fugaku. In the shrine basement, his Three-Tomoe Sharingan allowed him to read the hidden text on the clan stone tablet, including its claimed method for awakening the Mangekyo Sharingan. 12

By the time Ryosuke graduated, Itachi was serving in the Anbu. The Third Hokage ordered him to watch Ryosuke, while Fugaku separately instructed him to look after the younger Uchiha. 9 16

Itachi later became caught between Konoha, the Uchiha Clan, and “Madara.” Both Fugaku and the Third Hokage asked him to gather intelligence on the other side, while Madara pressured him to stop the growing Uchiha rebellion. 16 31 39

Appearance

Itachi is described as a boy around Ryosuke’s age during their early encounters. While on Anbu duty, he wears an Anbu uniform with a fox mask resting on the back of his head. 11 15

Personality

Itachi is calm, observant, and unusually mature for his age. He detects inconsistencies in Ryosuke’s explanations, sees through Ryosuke’s Transformation Technique, and remains composed even when Ryosuke holds a kunai to his neck. 12 13

He is deeply conflicted over his responsibilities. Although he seeks to prevent conflict between Konoha and his clan, he is pressured by the Hokage, Fugaku, and Madara, and is particularly sensitive to the possibility that Sasuke could be drawn into war. 16 31 39

Despite his guarded nature, Itachi takes an interest in Ryosuke. He considers Ryosuke “the same kind of person” as himself, assists him during his graduation examination, and sees hope in him. 12 15 16

Ryosuke discovers Itachi training with Obito, then follows him to the Uchiha Shrine. Itachi infiltrates the shrine, reads the tablet’s hidden message with his Three-Tomoe Sharingan, and identifies Ryosuke as someone like himself. 11 12

Confrontation with Ryosuke

After leaving the shrine, Itachi confronts Ryosuke over his knowledge of the stone tablet. Ryosuke briefly pins him with a kunai after using Sonido, but Itachi escapes through genjutsu. 13

Ryosuke’s Graduation

Itachi covertly helps Ryosuke pass the written and Summoning Technique examinations through a crow. Afterward, he accompanies Ryosuke to the photo studio and confirms that Ryosuke’s contract with crows proves their similarity. 15

Divided Allegiances
