Background / History
Three years after the Nine-Tails incident, the Uchiha were suspected because the masked attacker was believed to be “Uchiha Madara.” Their absence from the village’s response deepened Konoha’s distrust and contributed to the conditions leading toward the clan’s predicted annihilation. At the beginning of the story, fewer than four years remain before that event. 1
The clan resides on Konoha’s outskirts, an arrangement Ryosuke views as marginalization rather than convenience. Its members are socially distant even among themselves, while Uchiha children and adults alike face open suspicion from other villagers. 8 9 10 34 36
Uchiha Fugaku directs the clan toward greater political and military influence. He pressures Ryosuke to join the Police Force, offers to make him a foster son, and later orders him to pursue Anbu membership as part of the clan’s intelligence efforts. 13 31
At a secret Ise Shrine gathering, Fugaku and other members discuss the possibility of war with the Land of Lightning as an opportunity for the clan. The meeting frames intelligence gathering, the awakening of more Three-Tomoe Sharingan users, and eventual influence within Konoha as priorities. 31
The clan’s growing dissatisfaction is known to Itachi and exploited by “Madara,” who warns that the end of the Cloud conflict may bring a complete break between the Uchiha and Konoha. 32 39
Society and Organization
- Uchiha Police Force — The clan’s police organization. Its members are involved in clan security and intelligence collection; Fugaku expects Ryosuke to enter it after becoming a Chunin. 13 31
- Uchiha Shrine — A heavily guarded clan site containing statues of Izanami and Susanoo, as well as a basement stone tablet accessible in full only to Three-Tomoe Sharingan users. 12
- Ise Shrine gatherings — Clan meetings where Fugaku, elders, and Police Force members discuss strategy, war, and the clan’s future. 31
- Clan leadership — Fugaku serves as clan head. Elder Keita participates in strategic discussions and advocates using Ryosuke for clan intelligence work. 31
Traits and Reputation
The Sharingan is the Uchiha’s defining dōjutsu. It may awaken during severe emotional fluctuations; not every clan member possesses it, and Three-Tomoe users are considered especially valuable. 1 3 31
The clan is feared both inside and outside Konoha because of its eyes. Kumogakure operatives attempt to abduct Uchiha and Hyuga children for their dōjutsu, while Danzo openly covets Sharingan and treats Uchiha operatives as disposable assets. 1 2 32 37
- The Sharingan can perceive opponents’ movements and support the copying of techniques. 1 13 19
- A Three-Tomoe Sharingan can perceive the hidden text on the Uchiha stone tablet. 12
- The clan’s stone tablet describes a path to the Mangekyo Sharingan through witnessing a loved one’s death, and an Eternal Mangekyo path involving a sibling’s eyes. Ryosuke believes this inscription has driven destructive clan ambitions. 12 13
- The Uchiha are portrayed as highly combat-oriented; Team One lacks a medical-ninjutsu specialist despite following a standard four-person squad structure. 17
- Fire Style is a classic Uchiha specialty, though individual members also use genjutsu, shuriken techniques, clones, and copied techniques. 19 39
Key Members
- Uchiha Fugaku — Clan head and commander figure; pushes Ryosuke toward the Police Force, Anbu infiltration, and service to the clan’s revival. 4 13 31
- Uchiha Itachi — Fugaku’s son and an Anbu member; caught between loyalty to Konoha, the clan, and “Madara.” He recognizes the clan’s rebellion preparations and seeks a way to avert conflict. 12 16 32 39
- Uchiha Sasuke — Fugaku’s younger son; attends the Ninja Academy and admires Ryosuke and Itachi. 8 9 28
- Uchiha Shisui — A renowned Uchiha ninja and Team One’s teacher; prioritizes protecting his students and preserving peace, though later events cause him to doubt Konoha. 16 19 49
- Uchiha Ryosuke — A young war orphan within the clan; seeks strength to survive the predicted clan annihilation while being pulled between Fugaku, Itachi, Danzo, and Konoha. 1 13 32
- Uchiha Mihawa (Sanhe) — Team One member with a Three-Tomoe Sharingan; highly competitive and committed to Uchiha pride. 18 34
- Uchiha Miyuki — Team One member specializing in sensory/genjutsu skills and powerful Fire Style techniques. 17 19 39
- Elder Keita — Uchiha elder who supports using Ryosuke to gather intelligence and believes he is less susceptible than Itachi to Hokage influence. 31
Relations with Konohagakure
The relationship between the Uchiha and Konoha is defined by mutual suspicion. The Third Hokage worries that Ryosuke could become another Madara, while academy instructors, students, and ordinary customers display prejudice or fear toward Uchiha children. 5 9 10 34
The clan’s isolation and its members’ increasingly militant response reinforce this divide. Fugaku sees war as an opportunity, while some younger Uchiha, including Sanhe, want to improve the clan’s status by gaining political authority such as the Hokage position. 31 34
- Third Hokage — Monitors Uchiha activity through Itachi and is wary of the clan’s growing power. 5 9 16
- Root / Danzo — Uses Ryosuke as an informant against the clan; Danzo’s stated interest is ultimately Ryosuke’s Sharingan. 32 37 38
- Hyuga Clan — Relations are tense due to rivalry over status, but Ryosuke’s rescue and protection of Hinata creates a personal connection between the clans’ members. 4 35 36
- Kumogakure — Cloud ninjas repeatedly target Uchiha eyes and clash with Uchiha-led teams during border missions and escalating hostilities. 1 24 36 45
