Danzo had been knocked unconscious, but the pain of having his Sharingan gouged out woke him. He used Izanagi to deceive Li Yu and escape with his life.
Danzo's face was still pale with fear. Then he clenched his fist and said angrily,
"Senju Nawaki, you're good. Just you wait."
Once Danzo calmed down, his gaze grew even colder.
"Looks like I'll have to find somewhere else, somewhere more secluded, to hide."
The Anbu and Root ninja who had noticed the tremendous commotion rushed over in time and surrounded Danzo.
"Lord Danzo, are you all right?"
"Where did the enemy go?"
Danzo thought for a moment, then responded, "He's already escaped. He was a ninja from an enemy nation."
"I'll report the details to the Third Hokage myself."
After sending the Anbu ninja away, he left with the Root ninja.
Li Yu never would have guessed that Danzo had survived. His appearance had caused a butterfly effect, speeding up Orochimaru's research. Orochimaru had transplanted Hashirama Cells and a Sharingan into Danzo's arm early, and the result was even more perfect: the transplanted arm looked completely normal.
Unlike in the original story, Danzo's arm wasn't wrapped in bandages. It looked like a normal arm, concealed beneath his long sleeve, so Li Yu hadn't noticed anything amiss and had misjudged Danzo's condition.
After using the Flying Thunder God to return home, Li Yu still had no idea that Danzo was alive. He happily took out the Mangekyō Sharingan, which had been soaking in liquid.

Danzo went to see Orochimaru.
"Lord Danzo, what brings you to my place?"

Danzo snapped furiously,

"Find me another pair of Sharingan and replace it. And replace the eye in my arm, too."

"From my observations over the years, the fact that you can freely deactivate your Sharingan makes the importance of genetics even clearer, Nawaki."
With that, Orochimaru buried himself in his research once more.
After leaving Orochimaru's base, Danzo secretly made a trip to the Hokage Office Building.
"Danzo, you're here."
"What exactly happened yesterday?"
"The enemy village's ninja spy has already been killed by me. From now on, I'll go into hiding."
Danzo quickly left the Hokage Office Building, as if afraid of running into someone, though he was already wrapped up tightly.
