Yoshino is introduced as the Ninja Academy’s strict class representative. Concerned that the bottom-ranked Uchiha Kurohane has failed to complete his homework and is copying, she confronts him directly. She had previously tried to help him through tutoring because she believed him isolated, antisocial, and in need of support. 8

After Kurohane claims he was injured while protecting Kushina Uzumaki from bullies, Yoshino accepts Kushina’s corroboration, realizes she misjudged him, and apologizes. She reports the bullying students to the teacher and considers herself indebted to Kurohane. 8 9

Her early attempts to look after him include bringing him a bento and worrying about his eating habits, though Kurohane responds with little appreciation. 22
