'Daughter of Luck: Sherry (Semi-awakened)'
'Specialty: Domestication'
'Special Talents: Heart of Communication, Power of Affinity!'
'She is a tamer with a natural affinity for nature. By the day she matures into an excellent beast tamer, any Magic Beast will be willing to follow her commands.'
This Daughter of Luck is currently in a semi-awakened state; her talents cannot be used, and her aura can be detected by Dark Creatures. A potion can be used to complete her primary awakening.
Primary Awakening Potion Formula: One portion of White Jade Flower, one portion of Earth Lotus Grass, two portions of white Tulip...
Hmm, a Daughter of Luck with such a talent? The formula is different, too!
Nalant felt a sense of wonder as he looked at the girl being escorted over by the villagers.
He had originally assumed the second Daughter of Misfortune would also be related to combat, but he hadn't expected a tamer.
However, Nalant was drawn to one line in the illustrated guide's description regarding this girl's profession: 'By the day she matures into an excellent beast tamer, any Magic Beast will be willing to follow her commands.'
Nalant felt that this girl named Sherry was a stock with great potential; she would likely be no less valuable than a combat profession in the future.
"My Lord! I... should I prepare the pyre now?" Kenbi Cowdung asked, his face a mask of complex emotions while Nalant stood in silence, observing Sherry.
As a man from Misfortune Village, Kenbi Cowdung had experienced the sight of his own kin being sent to the stake.
Although he had never believed his daughter was abandoned by the gods, the arrival of Dark Creatures had forced him to accept it.
This girl named Sherry was only fourteen years old, but since she had become a Daughter of Misfortune, he had to harden his heart and follow the custom: complete the execution as quickly as possible to send the misfortune back to hell.
"No need! Kenbi Cowdung, your primary task now is to keep watch over the coast. I will take this girl named Sherry back to the castle to deal with her!" Nalant shook his head.
"Yes, My Lord!" Kenbi Cowdung let out a sigh of relief. Sherry's death was unavoidable, but not having to do it himself or witness it firsthand made him feel slightly better.
Afterward, Kenbi Cowdung watched as the guards escorted Sherry onto the carriage and headed toward the castle.
"My Lord, you have returned!" Now that there was sufficient manpower, the security of the castle needed to be taken seriously.
Therefore, whenever Nalant went out, a squad of guards had to be left behind to garrison the castle.
Vivian was the one left behind today. Seeing Nalant return, she had opened the castle gates wide early on to welcome her lord back.
"Mm, I'm back!" Nalant vaulted off his horse, his mood quite good.
At this moment, Vivian looked at Sherry in the carriage. Although her hands and feet were not bound, she had already noticed a ring of golden inscriptions in Sherry's eyes.
Vivian was startled, and her heart couldn't help but feel anxious for the girl.
"Vivian, take Sherry to the study and wait for me!"
"Yes, My Lord!" Vivian, not knowing if Sherry would be as lucky as she was, led her toward the inner castle with a heavy heart.
After the two girls left, Nalant headed to the storage room.
He quickly found the materials for the potion required for Sherry's awakening.
To prevent the formula from leaking, he still intended to handle these matters personally.
"Greetings, My Lord!"
"Greetings, My Lord!"
When Nalant carried his teacup into the study, the previously stifling atmosphere in the room was finally broken.
"Mm!" Nalant sat directly at his desk and began to observe the Daughter of Luck, who was only fourteen and looked like a little girl.
However, while Nalant was observing Sherry, she was secretly observing him as well—a behavior rarely seen among serfs.
"My Lord, are you going to burn me to death?" To Nalant's further surprise, Sherry spoke up on her own before he had even said a word.
"My Lord, could you please not burn me to death? Or perhaps you could hang me instead!"
"Why choose hanging instead of being burned at the stake?" Nalant was curious; he hadn't expected this little girl to be so interesting.
Vivian, standing to the side, was quite worried, as bargaining with the lord was an act of overstepping. However, she held her tongue, as everything depended on her lord's wishes.
"Because I'm afraid of pain, My Lord!" Seeing that Nalant showed no signs of anger, Sherry explained the reason. She paused, then added, "Besides, after being burned to death, I'll turn all black and charred. I don't want to look so ugly that my mother won't even recognize me!"
"Mm, afraid of pain and worried about becoming ugly—that's a valid reason, indeed!" Nalant was left between laughter and tears.
He didn't know if it was because of the awakening of a Daughter of Luck, but Nalant noticed that both Vivian and Sherry had skin that was rare for serfs—fair and delicate. Even in terms of appearance, they were exceptionally refined and beautiful compared to the average serf.
One had to realize that serfs could barely get enough to eat and often worked under the sun and rain; even if they weren't pitch-black, a rough, dark complexion was the norm.
"So, My Lord, have you agreed to my request? To execute me by hanging?" Sherry saw Nalant smiling and assumed he had already agreed.
"Sherry, although hanging doesn't hurt, your tongue will grow long and stick out of your mouth, unable to be tucked back in!" Nalant said with interest, intending to tease the little girl.
"Ah! Really? Then what should I do?" Sherry immediately covered her small mouth upon hearing this.
"Mm, however, I do have a way. I could grant you poison; that way, it won't hurt, and you won't look ugly!" Nalant pretended to ponder for a moment before suggesting it to Sherry.
"Ah? Drink poison?" Sherry thought about it. She didn't have much of an impression of that method of death, but since it was suggested by the lord, it must be better than hanging. Thus, she was overjoyed and thanked Nalant, "Thank you, My Lord! You truly are a merciful lord!"
"..." Seeing Sherry's reaction, Nalant didn't know how to express his feelings. "Don't thank me yet. Drink this cup of tea! Then I will agree to your request!"
This was death itself, yet this little girl was overjoyed simply because the method of her demise had changed; Nalant was quite curious about how her brain worked.
However, Nalant only intended to tease the little one, and once the joke was over, he handed the potion to her.
To avoid being noticed by others, Nalant had placed the brewed potion inside a porcelain cup, disguising it as ordinary tea, so even Vivian hadn't suspected anything when he entered.
Yet, upon hearing Nalant's words, Vivian's eyes lit up; she immediately recalled the medicinal soup she had drunk in her bedroom that night.
"Very well, My Lord!" Sherry did not hesitate, taking the porcelain cup and sniffing it before gulping it all down.
Moments after consuming the potion, Sherry began to sway unsteadily.
"Vivian, help her to the maid's room to rest! Hmm, explain it to her once she wakes up."
"Yes, My Lord!" Vivian could not hide the joy on her face, feeling happy for the cute and lively girl that was Sherry.
"My Lord, you truly are a kind and great lord!" Just as she reached the doorway, Vivian suddenly said this to Nalant.
Having said that, she left happily without waiting for Nalant to reply.
"Heh!" Nalant shook his head with a smile.
Even if it weren't for the abilities of these girls, being able to cure them and save them from being sent to the stake was a heartening thing in itself.
