Background / History

Sherry was a fourteen-year-old serf girl from Misfortune Village, raised by her mother Rose. After the golden patterns in her eyes marked her as a presumed Daughter of Misfortune, village custom demanded that she be executed. Nalant instead took her to his castle after discovering that she was a semi-awakened Daughter of Luck with the potential to become a Beast Tamer. 26

While expecting execution, Sherry candidly requested hanging rather than burning, fearing both pain and being left “black and charred” for her mother to see. Nalant gave her a primary awakening potion disguised as tea and had Vivian care for her while she recovered. 26

Rose came to the castle to beg for Sherry's release. Nalant refused to burn Sherry and kept her in the castle, believing she would bring him luck; Rose was subsequently appointed the castle's head chef. 27

Sherry soon discovered that she could speak with animals. Delighted by the ability, which matched her lifelong fondness for small creatures, she swore lifelong loyalty to Nalant. 30 Her talent later developed from simple communication into an ability that improves tamed animals, suppresses Magic Beasts, and enables master-servant contracts. 149 508 528

Appearance

Sherry is a petite, childlike girl with an appearance notably refined compared with most serfs. She is repeatedly described as small and youthful.

  • Fair, delicate skin. 26
  • A little round face and large, round eyes. 310
  • Bright black eyes in later descriptions. 507
  • Golden patterns appeared around her eyes when she was identified as a presumed Daughter of Misfortune. 26

Personality

Sherry is lively, outspoken, affectionate, and unusually unafraid of speaking directly to nobles. Having grown up around customers at Rose Tavern, she retains respect for Nalant but lacks the deeply ingrained fear common among serfs. 30

She is strongly food-motivated, particularly by honey, sweets, ice cream, cream cake, and Magic Potion Sugarcane. Her eagerness for food often makes her mischievous or impulsive, but she is also notably honest once confronted. 149 297 573 834

Despite her childishness, Sherry is brave around Magic Beasts, devoted to Nalant, and protective of Storm Territory's secrets. She refused to reveal information to intruders even while threatened, and she takes initiative when animal-related danger arises. 114 527 616
